Foot hooks designed for KBHF

Postby revhed » Wed May 18, 2016 8:09 am

As I am quite sure that the safest way to learn to fly a KBHF is strapless followed by a front foot hook only,
I just found that there are now ones made for this. :thumb:
Someone on this forum suggested cutting half the standard NSI foot hooks as the horizontal section is to long as it looks like they have done. :)

Using a front foot hook only provides correct board front foot placement and just enough control for the water start with the huge advantage of safety for both you and your KBHF in the assured crash event while learning.
I wonder how many guys out there wish they would have used a front only foot hook to learn, and into the future, before they got stuck in their either front or so not needed rear strap?
Of course for racing and jumps straps, rear included, seem, are better.

I started learning with two straps, had no problems until I tried swapping feet. I took the rear off and that helped a little, so I think my next step is strapless. Or a three-strap board.

Now, I miss the rear strap because I can't jump. Well, can jump but the board just dangles off the front foot.

What about those mushroom things? Are they still around?

Actually the new ones are finally available and likely won't break. I am using something similar of my own design:

Why are you using foothooks, when you HAVE learned hydrofoiling ?

You can not jump with one, right ?

And without the rear strap you can not go REALLY fast in control either...

Just curious - as I see it as a good option for beginners who are afraid - and nothing but that, as later you can ride either full strapped or strapless which is all I see here ?

Both have immense advantages over a foot hook as I see it - with straps you can both jump, and also ride faster, without straps you have way more freedom with your front foot, and the feel in general is better, and can even change wings easy without trim issues :thumb:

For learning I agree, it is by far the best and most safe option yes :naughty:

A front foot hook mounted a few cms in front of your normal stance helps with quick front foot board placement, strong gusty wind and, or choppy, wavey water starts and can aid by pulling up on it in light wind pumping.
After that by moving your front foot back a touch to your trim stance makes it just about strapless.
As I do not race and rarely go really fast which I consider to be around 30 knots I have no control issues.
Other than my TT KBHF and only because I have not designed and made "side of feet" foot hooks for it yet, I simply do not put my feet in straps while flying a KBHF, just feels wrong for my free ride style.
You are so right in that changing wings strapless is painless as far as stance goes and nice to read that you agree that learning strapless IS safest, followed by front foot hook only . :thumb:
