Speed? Riding above chop for a smooth ride? Riding in low wind?
Indeed a valid question, and hard to answer I guess.

At this moment in time the low-end benefit is perhaps the biggest draw of attention towards foiling.

But once you are hooked the smoothness of riding through chop is addictive, like a drug!

Racers discovered the very best VMG of any sailing vessel known to mankind.

Now the latest developments are carve, wave, low-end, speed and race specific foils.

Thing is that directional boards are more efficient than the very best TT.
Foiling is becoming big because of the efficient wings available nowadays. Back in 2001 you had kiteboarders who did try foiling. But those rigs were heavy and inefficient.

I think that efficiency is the biggest difference at the moment.
A twintip-HF might set that benefit back.

But we will see, let's first try it!

THAT LOOKS SO AWESOME!!!! Can you imagine ripping that board on a Cabrinha Fireball setup :D :D :D That would be totally new and therefore totally awesome and cool. And yeah throw on a big fat ugly handle while you're at it :bye: :bye: :bye:

I think few people are going to get scammed buying this "hydrofoil". Sacrificing the reason to be of a foil (efficiency) to avoid jibing ???? A kook magnet...

Can easily see this contraption furnishing the kitesurfing museum od oddities.

My goal with foiling was, initially, to access and actually enjoy the less than 15 knot winds we are eternally cursed with. By enjoy I mean going upwind, not battling massive kites trying get to get on a plane, and having a nice time cruising and carving around.

I do not see racing in my future at all, but I do see playing in waves more. I'm still enjoying directional riding and TTs but now I'm now picky about the wind is use them in. Both my time in the water and my enjoyment had increased greatly....

Only because of the SMALL amount of hype concerning TT KBHFs, I broke mine out in strong gusty wind on 4m2 kite mainly to test the board for water starts.
I was pondering making a TT KBHF dedicated board but will build another DIR instead.
Reinforces the finding that as posted if one wants the challenge of flying one go for it, but understand they at least current designs FAIL (and may always?) on many levels!
I do however find it interesting to question Asym (my DIY are 100% SYM) wing profiles going backwards as not much R+D at least under water has been done and tested.

Yes - there are some interesting things about it in the design area.
If the wings are operating bi-directionally - that is interesting. If it is a Canard design compromised by having to be bi-directional, then that is interesting in relation to Canard designs with optimised one-direction wings.
The inflatable part is interesting too. The rigid part doesn't seem to extend to where the feet are, so there must be some loss of control of the foil due to the feet being on the inflatable section?

Even a symmetrical wing profile actually work decent in terms of lift and drag :D

Amazed to see how most are dissing this concept, before even having tried it

I dont really believe in it myself, but that is because I generally dont like twin tips at all (nor mutants as they are equally bad at everything, and died again because of this), so I have to take my own liking out of the thread here.

It looks interesting and lets see how it works :naughty:

RH and Hawaiis has made and ridden these, so of course they work, and if it has been taken a notch up in terms of experiences now, it could be okay, the Brunotti.
Or it could be a dog - we dont really know but lets see when ridden more.

One problem though, could be that those who CAN ride, will feel a step down in performance, and those who it is aimed for, can not hydrofoil - I see this as a dilemma that can make it difficult to get objective tests unfortunately

The Brunotti TT hydrofoil is an innovative concept, how will it work ? :thumb:
