this does not promote big air.....speed and line tension are key. Speed and up wind angle and line tension.... To go big you need to solve that issue.....and it should be solvable unless your equipment is beat up. In my experience it is often the mast that sucks air and causes a rapid fall. Good smooth surfaces and always cleaned with windex pre session to get rid of contaminants is a place to start. It's a terrible feeling wanting to push hard and never knowing when you will get spanked into the water at speed.

I broke my Polish record yesterday.
Baltic Sea, Soul 15m with short lines 12m, Moses Comet 2018, Bracuru Hover, wind 15-18kts.
I am learning to jump with short lines.
Landings still suck but I am aiming in right direction: short lines are great for jumping too
Couple days ago I tried to jump with 25m lines. I lost all experience gained in last 15 years haha.

Does everyone do this? I've never heard of cleaning my surfaces (mast, fuselage and wings?) with windex. Makes sense, but does it really make a difference?

If you ride at high speeds and push upwind angles it's a huge difference in ventilation potential. Sunscreen, skin oils, gyro juices and other stuff that changes the flow are not good at speed. If you don't have ventilation issues then don't bother.
