There is mast angle and also where it mounts to plate and the centre of lift of wings that all will work together. So with a diy project I would expect it would all be relative to your DIY wings and fuselage

The XLW wings must have done something for them to sell the different length masts for the spitfire. Heres the link. It even goes down to 40cm ! I want the 70cm mast !

Be carefull for the Spitfire we advice :
- 40, 60 & 70cm masts usable only with XLW wings.
- 80, 90 & 96cm masts usable with both standard & XLW wings.

Why would they not recommend standard wings to be used with the shorter masts?

With so much of the fuselage out in front. How well does it handle impact?

From experience, very well.

it's very strong I've hit sand bars with no damage and rocks with just scratches. wings are easy to fix but also the parts are very reasonable and should you need spares. I always have the spitfire with me when travelling it's tough handles a wide range of conditions and has a huge wind range especially with XLW and standard wings. Spitfire turns on a dime handles waves and messy conditions better than any foil I've owned or tried. Wide progressive speed range you can go really slow with the XLW especially in turns or really turn up the speed when you want to. I still want a light carbon version for jumping the canard jumps so well and lands even better but it's too heavy.

I did the same to my Splitfire. Actually I rode it full speed into shallow ground rocks/reef.Same result. Not much damage!

Firstly Happy new year !! all the best, wind, waves, rollers and carving all the year long.

yes spitfire is very solid, due to the G10 wings and the alloy fuselage and mast, it makes it very strong for the wave use (but becarefull not to ride to close to the beach, shorebreak is a hydrofoil killer!! ).

By now I'm working on several trimming (bigger wings and/or short masts) and it works pretty well for other uses. Short mast for those who ride with no depth water works well with the XLW spitfire.
The Spitfire concept works also for SUPfoiling and Surfoiling. Here are some shots made recently with a spitfire design supfoil/surfoil dedicated, more news soon.
It keeps the same advantage as the concept for kitefoiling (backfoot pressure during turns, smaller wings, turns quick, safety lifting)

Also, soon we will release a new version of the Spitfire to use with our current carbon mast, like this you could save weight and have a longer mast (1m height)

awesome your stance seems so much more natural then most foil surfers I can't wait for carbon mast and even bigger wings for slow surfing canard style. Seems like most surf foils are going to huge sizes now 1300cm2 to 2800cm2 front wings some with 65,70cm + wing spans that require so much weight forward and front foot pressure and more difficult to turn. How is the canard design for pumping on the SUP? Approximately what wing area and spans are you riding in these photos ?
