MHL Lift 2013 or Moses Fluente for Learning

Postby swampfox » Mon Jan 16, 2017 11:41 am

I am wanting to learn to foilboard . I have been kiting for over 10 years with no directional experience , 65 YO. with a fused back .
Can get a MHL Lift 2013 at a good price or should I purchase a current Moses Fluente that I can progress with .
Thanks

I would suggest the MHL. The older MHL's, if you're not interested in travelling with you foil are bomb proof. Very strong construction and a great foil to get you going and keep you going. I've been foiling for 3 years now. I still have a 2015 MHL which I still love but the only thing is the mast is too long to travel with so that's why I'm going with the new Fluente which is 91 cm long which fits in a travel case and is a solid carbon mast. If you don't need to travel immediately with your foil the MHL older versions are great.

Would tend to agree not sure of the 2013 mhl though if it's the one with the round fuselage it's a nice learning foil, post a pict so we can see?the next version mhl had a triangular fuse also s excellent foil,I've had both and still have the newer mhl today, also have the fluent which is very nice too but it's pretty fast compared to the mhl,so for learning Id go mhl, however not exactly sure of the 2013 model your talking about

A great value IMO is a wheeler wing (by Matt wheeler up in the Gorge ) hammerhead or large gull - great for learning, but you'll not likely outgrow it unless your going to race as it is phenomenal for freestyle ( have 2 since so taken with first!)

Meant to add, I learned on a 2013 lift. Fine foil, beautiful carbon foil and board. But as I approach 60, looking for stability and predictability over light weight or speed. Cheers

2014 fuselage is round and pointy
2105 fuselage is triangle section and pointy

2013 fuselage is rounder-corners-rectangular section with mast inserted into it. No pointy head/tal. Beautiful lowspeed foil.
I learnent on one and still have it.

If you weren't into racing till now you won't outgrow the 2013 MHL any soon. Expect to waste couple of days learning before you start foiling. Wear a helmet and floatation vest. Put straps as far forward as possible on the board. Mentally switching muscles to front foot pressure takes a while but once you build muscle memory for foiling you can't stop gliding. Fall as far as you can from the board, don't try to stay in the straps. Toeside transitions are fairly simple and will build yet another level of enjoying the foil (till then you'll be reminded a lot of days you didn't know how to do transitions on twintip). Fly a kite on longer lines. Start with a regular size and be ready to trim in a lot. Later you'll be riding smaller size until you learn how to harness the power and speed on a foil.

2013 MHL is pretty sweet setup. Rides in very light wind - pretty much as long as kite flies I can ride it. Weighs only 7.2 lbs. Is easy to carry and go around with. The earlier model had fuselage and mast in one piece and was less mobile.
