Is it possible to kite a surf-foil?

When you order you can choose whatever mast length you want, extra masts are available as well as custom lengths. I got 76cm.

Shorter mast makes the foil more agile, reactive, easier to turn - this is exactly what you want from a slow, wave oriented foil.

I appreciate your points about shorter mast being more agile, reactive, easier to turn. I have always thought the longer mast provides benefits for riding in swell (wings staying in water and board staying above water). Do you also recommend a 60 to no longer than 76 cm foil for moderate to large waves like the one behind you in your picture? Where do you ride?

I (73 kg) had a chance to demo the Takuma V 100 (60 cm mast) from www.silentsports.com

I was looking for a Hydrofoil for WakeFoil as well as KBH in small to medium waves.

I was able to WakeFoil on my SS AlienAir with a boat speed of (9.4 - 10.2 mph) With my other foils (Zeeko Spitfire, Manta 2 Freestyle) I need at least 18.5 mph to be up and foiling (too fast for WakeFoil)

The Takuma V 100 is the easiest/stable foil that I have ridden at slow speed. After I finished my first boat tow trial my 13 year old neighbour with no foil experience wanted to give the Takuma a try. She got up on her first attemp and was riding the foil. On her second attemp she rode strapless and was doing small cuts!

I tried the Takuma kitesurfing in small waves (< 1 m).
Conditions: 14 - 20 kts 7.5 m OR Flite 30 m lines.
SS AlienAir (Mast set at middle of track)

The lift from the large front wing was noticeable. As soon as I started I was already riding the foil.
The foil topped out very quickly and wanted to be ridden slow.
It was easy to immediately recover from any touch downs.
When jibing down the small wave faces sometimes the front wing would cavitate. I think a longer mast (70 - 80 cm) and place the mast further back in the track would help to handle the increase in speed.

For a beginner foil this is hard to beat and a great multidisipline foil.
For riding in waves I need to play with it more.

Takuma will be bringing out a kitesurfing oriented foil and the current mast and fuse of the 100 V will be compatible.
It will be interesting to see what mast lengths they will offer.

Overall I was pleased with it's performance and got one.

That will be awesome if the new front wing is slightly faster for kiting but still retains most of its original characteristics.
