Full BRM Cloud D quiver
Zeeko Spitfire with standard and XLW wings
Freeriding and waves
75 kg (165 lbs)
I like to foil with the smallest kite possible and pretty much ride my 4.8m about 80% of the time. If I could only have one kite for foiling I would go with the 4.8m.
For me these are the sweet spots for each of my kites for foiling:
10.4m 9-10 knots
8.0m 10-13 knots
6.2m 13-20 knots
4.8m 16-26 knots
3.7m 25-30 knots

Nothing too specific to Hydrofoil for me. All kites get some alternative uses on land, surf, shallows and snow, whatever the day calls for!
Windranges for HF: and for (strapless surfboard)
12m Ozone Enduro 8-15kts / (14-20)
9m Ozone Enduro 11-18kts / (16-25)
7m GK Trix 16-25kts / (20-30)
5.5m GK Trix 18kts+ / (25+)
4m Airush DNA 25kts+ / (30+)
Only the 12 is flown on 25m lines, all the rest on 20.
Travel kit is 9 and 5.5 with convertible board

Flysurfer Speed 4 dlx, 8 meter for ~12 kts and above
Sonic 2, 15 meter for ~6-12 kts.
I have a full range of kites, but I find with my new foil setup I don't need anything else.

12m LF WOW -- 8-12kn
9m LF WOW -- 12-15kn
7m LF WOW -- 15-18kn
4.5m LF Solo -- 18kn+
I've been debating getting an Ozone Uno 2.5 for 25kn+ but we don't have many 25kn+ days where I live so I'm on the fence. I'll probably get one after I get blown off the water on the Solo.

Depends what you like, but my quick answer would be 12+7.
Send me a mail if you would like to discuss in detail.
Cheers,
Frank

Kites for foiling . . . D Clouds now (still have a lot of other kites but do not use them for foiling/not using them much anymore)
BRM Cloud
Zeeko Alloy with Carver front wing
85 kg
118cm Ketos inspired Pocket board
I like to foil with the smallest kite possible though do not mind being more powered now with the D clouds.
For me these are the sweet spots for each of my kites for foiling:
D CLouds
8.0m 10-17 knots (before 8.5m C5 Cloud 10-16 . . . 9m Gong Strutless 9-16 slower turning and more racey)
6.2m 13-20 knots (before 5.5m C5 Cloud 13/14-21)
4.8m 16-24 knots
3.5m C5 for 20 + knots even though it can start around 17/18 knots

75kg
185cm
J Shapes 155cm board
95cm mast
J Shapes Freeride foil
j Shapes Cruzer foil (low aspect my favourite toy by a long way)
Switch Element 5 5m >20 knots
Element 4 7m >15 knots
Element 5 10m >10 knots
Helium 2 15.5 <10 knots
I can get a fair bit more lower end out of the small kites. I can get a lot more top end out of all the kites but that depends on what I am doing and the conditions. It's easy to ride way overpowered in straight lines with smooth water.
The main reason for using Switch kites is they are super cheap and very good kites.
I was a very keen foil kite rider in the early days of kitesurfing. I might return to foils some day. There are two big impediments. One is the cost of foils. One foil kite would cost more than my entire quiver of Switch kites. The other is the general convenience of the LEI. Quickly pump them up. Go kiting. Easy self landing. Easy handling on the beach. No grovelling in the sand.
