Those numbers don't agree with my personal calcs.
I have a gofoil kai, it's 62 x 23cm.
With the wing shape as it is, I'd estimate projected area to be a little less than 62 x 23 x π / 4, so probably around 1000 - 1050cm2, definitely well less than 1200.
I don't know how to measure it accurately.
So the 120, 160 etc don't make sense except maybe relative to each other.

Agree, the numbers seem to be too high somehow ?

Taking the video wing outlines, combined with span measured very accurately and measuring the approximate area, I get the 200 to be in the neighbourhood of 1800-1850 cm2 and the 280 to be around 2300-2400 cm2 even when curved so adding a percentage.

But it is not square inch either, as they are 645 % more, so seems like a miscalculation yes, somewhat off the nominal value.

About 10-20 % off, both the 120 and 200 and 280 is my estimate - still not that far off, but I would not be proud of the measuring.....

I read somewhere GoFoil sizes indicate span. That wing in the first pic seems to be about 110cm 42in span. Either way, it looks huge.

Good job figuring this mystery out. I built a wing 22 x 64 and similar in outline to the Kai and the area came in at 1070cm squared, so I had been confused by the Go Foil size numbers, makes sense now

Aloha Chris,

Yes, the number is the size of the wing in square centimeters.

The Iwa is 180 and as you have stated the Maliko comes in 200 and 280.

We have not released the new foils online yet but I can take a direct order if you are interested.

Please email me if you are interested.

It is interesting that their numbers seem a little off,but not that surprising. I think the entire surf industry is mainly composed of people who are surfers first and business people second. They often have me scratching my head.

It's only off by a factor 10. Surely she means the number is the size of the wing in square centimeters WITH A ZERO DROPPED OFF? Recently measured the actual dimensions of a "6'4 x 20.75" surfboard from a very reputable shaper. Turns out it's actually 6'3 x 22...

Yeah she told me on the phone that they dropped a zero for some reason.

It's a funny thing they do but I have run into this confusion before with other brands....they drop the final zero if the measurement is in sq cm.
