Andersson Foils Bi-Directional

Here is a pretty cool looking Bi-Directional foil by a new brand called Andersson Foils. Its called the "Skate Twin" They are out of Huntington Beach CA. They currently sell them for $450 just to get them out there. G10 wings and aluminum mast/fuselage. American aluminum and not Chinese that is. Probably about 3 times as corrosion resistant. Website is www.foilsurf.net
Imagine not having to tack or gybe and just rip on the foil and do tricks on a small twin tip. I tried this board and I have to say it is the most fun free ride foil I have ridden. When riding it feels like a conventional foil going each direction. There is always more pressure on the front foot to stomp on in each direction but you don't need to tack or gybe. The designer Dan Andersson is working on an action vid which will be up on their website soon. I rode it with straps but Dan says that it rides great strapless as well. So you can basically mount this foil dead center on any twin tip. I am going to mount mine on a wake skate. The foil is amazingly stable having 2 main wings but they are much smaller than a conventional main wing. They have a Retro Fit Kit for mounting the foil to any twin tip. I guess you could also go with the foilmount (www.foilmount.com) but thats 160 buks and you pretty much dedicate your board to just foiling. With the Retro Fit Kit you can still use your twin tip regularly. I am just going to bolt it right through my wooden wake skate. Anyhow I think this is the next level in kite foil freeriding. I mean if you are racing that is one thing but this foil is just so much fun. I can't wait to push the envelope with it. I never really wanted to go for any back rolls with my SS Alien Air. It just felt to bulky. Im already doing rolls with my twin tip so it just feels natural to do it with this foil. Also with the two larger wings I had tons of lift and could power up wind like crazy. It was blowing about 10 mph, I was on my 10m, I weigh 185lbs and had tons of power and lift. The lift/drag ratio was amazing. I think I will be able to foil in way lighter winds than with my Alien Air/lyft. Anyways I told Dan I was going to rant about his foil so that is what I am doing. I absolutely loved it. Check out the pics.

Been there, done that, not interesting! :nono:
At least a WELL designed canard or mono wing can be fun, but TT foil, NO!
I spent WAY to much time building and testing to no avail, others far more competent than myself as well.

This looks like an exquisitely designed, efficient, high-end product that will almost certainly disrupt the current high performance foil market. Now, FINALLY, we'll be able to foil in two directions instead of just one, huzzah!

I was thinking of building one of these the other day. My vision would have hinges on the wings so the front wing sits at 1 degree and the rear at -2. Otherwise it will be a horribly inefficient foil. This looks to have both wings set at 0 which will be rideable but lack top speed and stability.

TT is most probably the most inefficient craft on the water because it is a compromise. Planes, cars ,bikes, boats, animals, fish, humans are all directional for a good reason. Anyone claiming a bi-directional foil is better than a directional foil is defying the laws of physics.

Want to combine TT board and TT foil ? Have fun...

Many have tried, some still are.....
Consider flying things.....flying backwards----why? Other than rotary wing designs, ie helis and drones!!
Fixed wing aircraft simply fly best in one direction for many reasons....
Does a TT KBHF fly? YES
Is it fun after awhile as compaired to a Dir?
NO
Good luck, try to not waste to much time though....

Good compilation revhed.

And yes, every new year there is a new brand trying to do commercials with the now best and only twin foil. But what foil beginners forget about is not just, that a twin foil will be instead never easier, but more instable than a normal foil. Also style and feel of foiling is not to replace jibe and tack by beginner style transitions. But most important, that the sensation of foiling is most about low drag, where twin foils are allways even worse than most inferior freeride foils.
So I am sure, on the end for everybody looking for a twintip with lower resistance for light wind, you will better stay with a door shape than a twin foil as compromise.
