There will be some restrictions sooner or later but not so strict like for jet-skis.
I had to wear a helmet and a lifejacket as it was suggested by a Harbour Master.
I did but after a while had to give up with a lifejacket as it was hampering too much. Just wrong type of the PFD.
At open water I would not use any protection. I do not need it but it should be used by all beginners.

Falling - it's not so bad till speed is less than 30kmh. Bear in mind that a board is flying 20-40cm above water on average.
However falling with speed 40kmh will be painful. No doubts.
But the beauty of this efoil is that you can lay down on it and levitate too.
This is the easiest device to learn levitation I've ever experienced.
Anybody will feel it in 1-10 minutes.
All can levitate after first session.
And I repeat - ANYBODY.
I think about so many experienced kiters who gave up with foiling because it was too hard for them. Or it took them one full season of frustration to master first stage of levitation.
With efoil - any grandpa and kid (who does not afraid water) taken out of the blue from a beach should levitate.
That's incredible.

Talking about safety I would be more concern about consequences of cutting fingers when a beginner would manage to put his hand into a prop.
I believe that props is a temporary solution.
A stream jet is the must IMO.
It could be hidden in a fuselage. There are only advantages including surfers. No difference in drag when power is suddenly reduced or stopped.
With a prop usually it ends up falling.
I have no doubts that it will be huge in surfing.
Imagine - you can stay in surfing zone for 3 hours catching every 11th wave. The ratio of ridden waves would be unbeatable! 30-40 waves per hour!

For sure one day I will get efoil - mostly to ride waves at my place.
We have one of the best waves at Polish coast. They are perfect for efoiling :)

I don't understand how one can do any proper wave riding with something that weighs 35kg and has the additional drag of a motor with propellers.

Ha ha,

BraCuru, “Levitation” is best experienced with paragliding ;)

I can easily claim that there’s nothing like a paraglider in skillful hands.
But cant, everyone is different.

My friends and I tried one a few months ago. I was impressed with what a refined and polished product the Lift efoil is. We were all experienced hydrofoilers and we each had no trouble getting up and foiling in a few minutes. It was smooth and fun but none of us are going to buy one.

On the last ride my friend fell in and got bumped by the foil board. A broken nose and a few stitches in the face was the result. Be reminded that these are relatively heavy powered craft that have significant momentum. I don't think that they are really dangerous but they certainly need respect and I wouldn't put a kid on one.

Lift is working on a folding prop for surfing.

This wont be proper wave riding, it'll be wave foiling which is a lot more drawn out turns and straight shots on sections, not vertical turns smacking the lip.

You probably wouldn't believe people ride foils wearing shoes either, but they do it all the time as the feeling of the board isn't anywhere near as important as when riding a surfboard.

Here we go with magic China prices :)

Waydoo electric hydrofoil from China - 4.999 euros :) !!!!!!

and only 25kg weight !!!

https://newatlas.com/waydoo-flyer-elect ... oil/57884/

Propelled by a 6,000-watt brushless motor, the carbon fiber-bodied Waydoo Flyer has a top speed of 35 km/h (22 mph – the eFoil tops out at 25 mph), and can reportedly run for 40 to 60 minutes on one 2-hour charge of its 18650 lithium-ion battery pack. It weighs 25 kg (55 lb), can accommodate riders weighing up to 120 kg (265 lb), is 1,800 mm long (71 inches), and disassembles into two pieces for transport – it can be put back together by hand.
Speed and height are controlled via a Bluetooth handheld remote, with riders being able to select between Beginner and Advanced modes, depending on their skill level. Other features include a slip-resistant textured wooden deck, a removable rope that beginners can hold onto to boost their stability while standing, and a GoPro-compatible quick-release camera mount.

weighs 25kg, but it LOOKS 80kg!
Honestly, why spend so much effort into R&D for electronic and propulsion, yet sabotage it all with the ugliest board shape.
There are general principles about the appeal of smooth curves, harmony, flowing lines and all. All being blatantly ignored in the case of the efoils, and of this one in particular.

this is preorder, for prototypes :) Final Price will be about 10-20% lower than LiftFoils, but this is like compare apple with acer... both have 8GB of ram, and 512GB SSD drive :) (for example)

This was interesting: https://www.facebook.com/brett.lickle/v ... Oo&fref=nf

A wavejet in the board to get on the wave, then once you start foiling on the wave you don't have any drag from the propulsor.
