32.8 feet high in 9.2 miles per hour of wind :shout:
Yep. Right equipment and you can do it all day long.
Tell me all about the equipment needed for a board to go jumping 10 meters high from the water in only 8 knots of wind please

This duck is 10 meter high

Pullstrings.....a fast foil such as a Moses 101 with 558 or 637 wing, Sonic2 15m with line extensions or even 11m on a good day. Ozone R1V2 or any other higher performing race kite. Speed, tension and a well timed send of the kite and the wings and 30 ft is really pedestrian...and I'm not the strongest in our group. Remember foils generate apparent wind and that speed and your "wings" generate significant lift. I can tell you a number of people you can go visit around the world where you can witness it yourself. Give us 12 to 20 knots and the right conditions and 50 feet is common.

Come see us in Toronto!!

CWood,

I’ve been inspired by your posts re jumping with foil. Any tips re equipment and technique to help the learning curve?

Thx,
Salvino

Its really something you just need to start trying and go from there. A woo is very helpful to track your tweaks in technique and to see the outcomes. Its something you can actually do quite well at slower speeds to start....its really timing. I recommend an upwind track, feeling stable and smooth, feel the tension in the lines and the wing resisting.... then send the kite to 12 sharply, and depending on the type of kite, time the send and release of the wings when the kite is reaching the apex. With foil kites its a longer wait than with tubes...even longer with a big kite and line extensions. If you send the wings before at the apex or too late then the results are poor of course. I like to think of the wings as a springboard to help with the gravity the kite is dealing with to move you vertically. Don't forget a strong redirect to keep line tension and control descent. On landing I like to have the board tipped back a bit and just punch the wings in under. Table tops or board nose high are very easy due to the pendulum of the mast swinging.

Let us know how you make out.

I dont know much about wind speed. Point is that in same conditions you cannot kite even with light wind TT you can jump 10m with foil. Of course you time your jumps with gusts. So if base wind is 6-8 knots gust might be 8-10 knots. but in those conditions going with TT is just not fun. It is constant struggle of getting enough upwind.

Yesterday tried straps and first time on Moses 550 (have been on 633), 71cm mast with 12m airush ultra in 10-15mph. I’m 90kg.
I just wanted to sell my W 590 wing and remain with the 633 as sole rig. Could you please try to describe what in a given wind/kite combi the 633 differs from 550 & al in terms of jumpability ?

Do you use the Ultra in 12m only ? what´s your next smaller kite type of ?

thanks a lot !

@ cwood it's only your 5th year kiting...which is really almost 3rd year cause you don't kite on water all year long...so your wind speed is ridiculous

You may think it's 8 knots in your kite but it's not

Toronto water is cold so with warm wind you have a gradient...sure you can measure all day long the wind from the ground but on the water the dense wind is much windier

Just common sense...laws of physics prohibit such heights with "normal" 8 knots of wind in the kite

I've landboarded in true onshore 8kn....generated speed of 24knots and never got to 10 meters...with 15...19...21 ram airs

Think more about what's going on where you kite and give details of how much wind power you estimate you had to get such height...it will near double what you are saying

(I'm in my 20th year kiting all year long minimum 15 times a month in mostly light winds)....i've seen a thing or two

Good luck
Have fun

we dont need to beat a dead horse this wind that wind ....bla bla bla........in the end the foil jumps the highest out of anything out there........vs a twin tip in under 30 kts add about 20 feet to 30 feet if your on a foil. We all undrstand that wind differs everyday, everywhere, hi lo doming thermal holey......whatever.......in the end the experience when the average wind is 8 kts.......sure with a higher gust............is that you will jump 10m. this pettiness of measuring wind and defining performances on a one knot range is .........well.

Don't you guys have a feeling that jumping with a foil is like taking a sword to jump with on a trampoline?

......not at all the foil itself has a nice counterbalance to a jump and makes for an incredibly stable experience going into the air!
