So
Straps count: 18
Strapless count: 13
As said - surprised how many who dont race or ride fast, riding strapped, so it explains a lot of the "trim" posts you see, that otherwise would be obsolete
Probably because many want to jump
Good to see there was an explanation, namely that most ride with straps or hooks

In a few weeks I will have 2 boards that will be exactly the same,
apart from one of them will have 3 straps,
the other board will have just one back strap,
my thinking is the one with a back strap will enable me to steady the board, then easily position my front foot, then repositioning my back foot in front of the back strap and immediately (if not sooner)-diving the kite and powering away riding strapless,
not sure if this is going to be ok for using my 637 race wing, or if I need lots of practice riding strapless to adapt and get comfortable.
at the end of the day I might decide to always use straps, but I can see a definite advantage to strapless foot switches on the fly, my failed attempts are definitely down to tripping over and kicking my foot straps, and this puts me off even trying in rough conditions.

1 loose front foot strap helps my starts. I should try without.
I would also be interested if foil aspect matches strap usage.
Low-Aspect/Surfy = no straps
high-aspect/Speed/Racing = straps
22/Straps
13/without

chalk up another for strapless, rode with a front soft hook for a year or more then ditched it last year best move for me in my foiling, more real estate on the board and my toes are thanking me used to bump into the hook quite often on flying switch stance and would stub my toes, no more! strapless surf style for me all the way.

True, one can say that almost everyone riding
high-aspect/Speed/Racing = straps.
But for the rest (lower aspect) it is not like this, as some like straps for easier waterstart, some like straps for jumping, some like straps for tacking and overall control, and others like strapless for the freedom and the beauty of it
