Still my favorite setup
I remember that you used to be a big fan on the 695... How does this compare?
695 was my awesome step up in wing size for 647 fuselage (from 590 I was riding at that time). That was January 2019 and I loved 695. I still consider it a great wing - few friends followed my advice to get 695 and they’ve been flying the hell out of them.
The 800 appeared 6 month later and it has a bit more area so it delivers more lowend, glide and due to higher AR - more roll stability. The extra step in area - from 770 to 840 sq.cm was something I was looking for primarily - so I could get rid of 679 and heavy surf fuselage after getting the 800
The only time when I preferred 695 to 800 was in churning waters where 800 was just too big of a wing to be able to fly it fast. I’d had been much better there on my 637 race wing.

If you look at my kite foil quiver, there’s zero surf fuselages or surf fuselage-based setups. Every wing I have from 570 to 1200 sq.cm mounts onto kite fuselages and I’m very happy I made that move.
Thanks for this post, I own a 679 and 550 wing, thinking in buying a new one, liked your 800 comment. which one do you sugest me? . I am 75 kg, 91 mast, my spot is flat, normally 6 to 11 knots, no waves, and own a 12 M Soul. Just to have fun, not for race, and dont like jumping with foil.

Thanks

There are several options - all of them are good.
- 695 (770 sq.cm) wing is scaled up 550 and is fun to ride, more roll stable than 679
- 800 (840 sq.cm) wing is larger, has better lowend than 695 and is the most stable at top end.
- 730 sq.cm wing - thicker and lower AR compared to 695, better lowend, slightly lower high end. A wing which is pretty close to the 800

730 is most affordable and middle ground between 800 and 695
695 is fairly fast yet more expensive
800 is still one wing I’d pick if I had to choose only one of three

I added 1200 sq.cm surf wing as a lightwind option to the quiver and what I love about all of them is they fit lighter, more compact kite fuselage.

I have 730, 695 and 1200 for sale if you’d like one. Yet I’m not giving up on my 800 even though I’ve been riding the 730 most of the spring

And to repeat what has been said endless times: bring back rhe 425 and introduce its larger version (yet thinner than 483/450) for huge wings. Those would be two major stabilizers ever needed
yes man. you are right. Jimmie, do 425 again. Please
is there anyone who could reproduce it?

why, why, why .... they call it 425 but it has a different design than the 425. it was better to give it a different name. moreover, many of us asked Jimmy for the possibility of redoing the 425 a few years ago.

Maybe you should try it first. It might just do exactly what you want it to.

Thanks a lot, this info is very, very usefull.

During this week I had the opportunity to use an "old" w600 and s380, in 12 knots.
I was surprised with the nice lift, better than w550. I was afraid because it is a race set up, but it was nice, also for jumping. Could you please give me some inputs so I can compare w600 with w695 and w800.

600 is a race wing with great high end and a bit challenging on the lowend - you gotta keep flying it. The 695 is scaled up 550 wing which I consider being better than 590 because of additional lowend.
The 800 is one wing which survived them all for me. Awesome top speed, very stable, nice yet not true lightwind lowend but nice.
Below is a “family photo” from last September and 800/425 is the only one which made it. You can tell from my profile what replaced other wings. I’d be happy to answer questions

what do you find is your max top speed and "comfy" top speed on the 800? I was out for about 35 miles yesterday and was pushing it as fast as I could go to rack up miles, and found I could max out at almost 26mph. average riding speed was more like 22-24mph really which at 80kg with a 91cm mast, this was my comfy riding speed. This was in some pretty gusty conditions with good sized waves rolling in. I had my 7m apollo out which was plenty of power as long as the wind didn't lull too much. If I got the direction across the waves just right I could push towards 25mph, but the wave action on the wing was too destabilizing to maintain that kind of speed for very long. Any ideas on how to help this? I'm thinking about a longer mast to get under the waves a bit more and have more leverage by leaning back more.

I've hit 30mph with my 590/330 set on a smaller lake (no waves) with an 11m boxer and my 14m apollo, this wasn't by any means a controlled speed run, but I still saw 30 on my watch before catching my balance and slowing down. So I tried that wing with my 425 stabilizer and immediately found I could break that 26mph barrier and got close to 28 before the wind started to fall off. Is it that I'm too light for the 800 at that kind of speed? Or do I just need more practice handling the wave action at those kinds of speeds?

29.8 mph with 105cm mast @205 lbs on 800/425 comfortably. Could have gone faster if had more space
