[Moving this post into the Moses thread.]
Has anybody else had a problem with Moses bolt heads digging into the wing? (I searched, but couldn't find anything on the Forum.)
I use a Moses 483 stabilizer with a 679 front wing on a Stringfellow 710 superfuse. I tighten the 15 mm bolts securely enough to keep the 483 stabilizer firmly in place, but the bolt heads are gradually digging into the stabilizer around the bolt holes (see photos). If this continues, I'm afraid the bolt heads will eventually break through the holes on the stabilizer.
I've used Teflon plumber's tape to try to make the bolts more secure without digging deeper into the stab. I've also considered using a washer on each of the two bolts, but the bolt heads are tapered to fit flush, so I'd have to switch to a different bolt to make washers work.
I've also wondered if moving the stab forward on the Stringy fuse would help. I use one shim under the stabilizer and attach it at the rear of the fuse. The fuselage has a bit of contour at the forward position, so it's possible that attaching the stabilizer (also contoured) in the forward position on the fuselage might better secure the wing without my over-tightening the bolts.
Thoughts, suggestions, advice are much appreciated.
