It’s not for us silly, it’s for that non existent surf market.

So funny, go to a surf foil like Maui Fin Co site and the have surf and windsurf foils, but not a word about kite.

We’re the ugly step child of the surf industry family.

But why only 70cm ? Why not normal as 80 or 90 cm ? After half a year their will release it longer and everyone must buy again as addition. Sad.

So true, why make such a rarely used length as the first carbon kite mast? Odd...

Would make sense to make a normal mast in carbon, and then have the short alu for learning.

Maybe jumptheshark is right

I bet the mast is simply not stiff enough for the longer lengths. They claim to have reduced thickness, which will decrease stiffness significantly. You can get away with a softer mast in the short lengths, but it will feel much more flexible long. It's odd, because making the mast thinner (and less draggy) doesn't really do much for surfers anyway who ride much slower and with wings that have 10x the drag of the mast. Classic industry marketing.

Unless you live in an area like I do, where that shorter mast is great b/c of how shallow our water is for so far out. I have the Slingshot FSurf which comes stock with the 71cm mast. I already have to work my way a long ways out to ride that. Put the full size mast on and I'm pretty much never going to ride it.

With fuselages and wings pretty like that Cbrinha/NP are moving Slingshot/Naish/LF deep into "heavy/ugly/expensive" quadrant.

FYI: A 70cm carbon mast will be available in May. It'll cut 2.5 pounds off.
I'm looking to buy a 70cm mast so contacted my local NP dealer today (Australia) regarding price/availability & they have no info as yet.

The 2.5 pound weight saving, is that on mast only or mast/track plate combined ?

I'm not sure what I'd be prepared to pay extra for just over 1kg less weight?

Alloy 70cm mast here are $195AU

The weight savings is on the fully assembled apparatus. So, it considers the mast, 4-bolt plate, and set screws from plate to mast. It actually seems to be closer to 3 pounds difference. Size L alloy full assembled is 10 pounds, and the size L with Carbon mast is close to 7 pounds.
