hi,
can anybody tell me what profie is used for the GoFois EXACTLY ?
I want to make a DIY huge frontwing....for foil pumping / fat + heavy rider
best would be a hint where to find a drawing of the profile, for example on
http://airfoiltools.com/airfoil/details ... =clarky-il
best regards

The easiest one to make DIY is the Naish Thrust in my experience. It also pumps as well as a wing can pump, from what I've seen. I have made 5 different wings now and it by far was both the easiest and highest quality
Use 1 inch segmented divinicell-allows for precise cuts and sanding
laminate the bottom with a 4oz sheet of glass- holds the wing tip on when you bend them and keeps the thin parts from falling apart
draw and shape the wing
snap the wingtips(segmented divinicell remember) and the bottom glass will keep it connected
glass the wingtip to a 15-20 degree angle
vacuum bag with carbon
mount fuselage(that is a whole other topic)
start foiling.

sorry I can't answer either but I have another question.
Assuming that you found the exact profile.
How are you going to manufacture it and especially how are you going to handle that the chord get smaller towards the tips affecting the profile thickness ?

hi,
i will cut the wing from an XPS core with hot wire like model airplane wings are cut.
where necessary, the wing will then manually been shaped to final form.
then the core gets some reinforements / stringers and is laminated with carbon or glass.
some pictures of 2 foils I did in similar ways are here - all the red ones:

there are web sites with cad files for surfboard shapes and reviews of them, there should be be something like that for hydrofoils, if not i guess it will happen.
I wonder if people are patenting hydrofoil bull$hit?!

Greetings,
I know one hydrofoil related patent, in my opinion a dead turkey anyway.
On the profile thing, since the 40's those are collected in huge databases, accessible as DAT files. No reason for CAD files. Once you have chosen the correct profile it would take me around 30 minutes to draw the molds.
I am sure Alex will be more then happy to expose his profile to the public so it can be copied in China or elsewhere.
tks
Kosta

Agree, some might give their details away yes.
But most, the same with surfboard shapers, dont give their rockerlines and 3D models to the public, that would be like Coca Cola giving their recipe to everyone from the very start.
You can copy yourself yes, but this is not as easy and will give the "original" designer/vendor a well deserved advantage
It might be public, but I can for sure understand if it is not, that would be the most likly and to be expected.

copying a board/ foil design for personal use is absolutely fine.
i personally think open source foil design will develop like in the world of surfboards.
Sure it disrupts business, but it's 2018 so adapt or die. So many of the big companies you know are cut and paste anyway .. coincidence that a top seller /performer becomes a standard design accross brands?!
Someone somewhere will be working on a piece of software to knock out shaping files with minimal parameters required.
yep foil profiles are everywhere my dad said he used something called RAF foil his boats, today you have naca. should be an app for this these days.
i think open source is awesome, being able to make your own decent kit. The full retail costs are so rediculous.
if u go to a surfboard shaper .. they have pretty much every good selling biard on file whatever the brand, most of it available online these days.
