the choice between the gong strutless 12mtr and the Alpha 12mtr was not easy for me to make before the Alpha purchase as I knew the gong could Hover like a foil kite, giving great low end and the Alpha was untried, but the safety aspect swung it for me and a leap of faith going for a untested kite,
Thankfully the Alpha is way better than I could have wished for, and the low end is amazing with hover that allows very slack lines without any sort of threats to tumble from the sky, and
Could you please explain which safety aspect is better with the alpha ?

thx,

Nayy

I'm on the lookout for a single strutter for foiling on those 10-15kn days (80Kg).

My Helium 3 12m (3 struts) keeps dropping out of the sky in anything under 14kn.

Have my eyes on the Ozone Alpha as I have a Reo and know the material is quality and light. However should I be aiming for a 12m or 10m alpha ?

Surprised no mention of the North/Duotone Mono on this thread ?

Depends on how long you've been foiling and how low you wanna go and what size wing your on.

I have a 12, but when replacing it will drop to a 10. 4th season foiling on a 1200 cm wing with no real desire to go below 9 knots.

Im sure others can go even smaller for the same wind. Eventually its all about the waterstart.

Only 1 1/2 years experience with the Slingshot NF2 foil.

I get it that the more experienced and/or bigger winds, you go down in size and that it's all about water starts.

For me it's more about the kite flying and not dropping out of the sky which is what happens a lot to my 12m.

i weigh a bit more than you so the 12 really helps in the waterstart in minimal fickle airs, and after many hours of use over the last weeks in just these conditions I am glad I have the 12 and the 633 wing,
to help even more I am looking forward to my bigger groove skate arriving which will complete my light airs kit choice, I have the 10mtr Alpha as well but it has not got the extra low end grunt and lift the 12 has, and the 12 has high end abilities that nearly match the 10mtr, a very welcome quality that surprised me, and if I had known that then the 10mtr would have not been purchased, but its still early days and I am sure the 10mtr will get loads of use as it feels a little more nimble than the 12.
I did own 3 North Mono Kites around 16 months back, there were many reasons they did not work for me, I remember stability of the large size being lacking along with a sluggish sort of feel, looks were weary as well, which for me is sort of important. others will disagree but it was a very short partnership for me.
