Mouth guard?

Postby Alysum » Sun Dec 30, 2018 12:25 am

So I had my first foil board tip meets mouth after a crash. Fortunately no teeth damage but lots of cuts on the lips.

Which makes me wonder, is a mouth guard a good idea whilst still learning or just bad luck.... I'm always wary of the foil coming towards me once I crash off....

I think there was another post regarding using helmets with face guards for hydrofoilng.

Also just heard yesterday about a local foiler who lost some of his front teeth from impact with the foil or board.

I was body dragging in the waves and my board smashed me in the chin, chipped the hell out of my tooth.

I think that is a good idea, but not only for learning.

People need to wake up, ie the mountain bike riding IS different than just a cruising around on a touring bike.

If someone dislikes ones approach to safety, who cares. I cant care less, my life, my problem.

Sure,

That kid hasn’t got a 500k mortgage, hasn’t she. When I was a kid clearly remember was invincible ;)

Not any more. one twisted ankle with kite surfing and bang, a deep vein thrombosis, 4.5cm long under my knee. Ha.

How is that for safety and being invincible...

I've been looking for a solution. Seems only realistic one is a hockey helmet with face guard.

Btw a foiling friend was out the other day and he's wearing a helmet. Said he got hit in the back of his head by board so hard, he wouldn't have made it out of the water if he'd not had helmet...

How thats happens? I mean kind of fall where board hit you from behind?. Maybe we should incorporate protection in board - EVA tip. Board cannot go sideways or backward so We know point of impact.
