Moses Onda with a smaller stabilizer?

Postby happywizz » Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:23 am

Hi all,

I'm now using the Onda with the MS420 stabilizer (from my race setup) and I find it more agile and enjoyable in the waves compared to the original MS483. Little bit more dolphin effect but being experienced enough it isn't a problem. Did anyone tried for example MS325? I'm curious to know if this combination is even better in the waves. Ultimately I want to use the Onda as mono, but our conditions are not the easiest.

Cheers, Frank

agree I think the 483 stab was optimized for SUP not kiting performance it's too big.

This setup (see photo) works nicely especially in waves the vtail profile of this stabi provides snappier turns and stability in hard bottom turns. You can buy this stabi for under $100 and shim it to your desired performance it's stong very light weight and won't cut you like a sushi knife.

I have the 330 and 325 stabilizers, but haven't gotten an Onda wing/fuselage yet. I'm interested to see how you like it, maybe I'll try it out.

Hi Frank, you can IMO choose ANY smaller stabilzer, from almost zero surface area, up to your now likeable MS420.

Impossible to say what is the better one in waves, as it is both personal liking, but also dependant on the given day in my experience.

It can never go wrong, using a smaller stab, and only you yourself can find out which size you prefer :thumb:

Some go stabless, other go medium (but noone go big, doesnt work, this we can all agree), and most go somewhere in between, really smallish stabilizer for waves, both with huge surf wings, as well as smaller faster wave wings.

Thanks much. Does rear stab bolt right onto Moses fuse without mods? (fuse for 633, of course)

yes it does with original Moses bolts and works that way but depending on your weight and riding style you may want to use a washer to shim it a bit. see photo with slight rear shim If you ride strapless its not that big of a deal just preference.

BTW I've tried my 325 stabi and didn't like it. doesnt mean someone else won't
