Groove Skate foilboard, durability and build quality

Postby slowboat » Sat Feb 16, 2019 10:20 pm

These boards seem very popular (and expensive) right now. Looking for positive or negative comments about durability and build quality. Thanks

You are right they are amazing...no problems here been jumping mine hard and landing hard holding up good can’t find any problems with it the only problem you might encounter is having trouble finding a better board to buy have no idea how they could have made this board better other then make it even lighter ..
The nose rocker separates it from all the rest probably why so popular it’s very hard to dive the nose under even on purpose unless you are going 3 mph

I am on my third groove skate, well I will be when my full carbon Black and gold edition arrives.
fantastic board in every detail, more so now they supply it with the front Y strap.
the only negative I have found along with many others is the painted ones scratch up on their edges far to easily, and this shows up, as the base is white, many have resorted to black tape to try a hide, I used a black marker pen and mini stickers to hide the worst.
but no such problem with the Naked carbon boards they now offer.
I have the naked carbon fibreglass version with red stripes as it comes in a little cheaper, but when compared side by side with the full carbon, its the full carbon naked that takes the prize for shear eye appeal, and that's the one I am waiting for.
pics will follow of my skate on holiday last week.

The carbon looks cool :thumb:

But I would not recommend NOT having a color on the edge :o

As I believe most ride strapless, you will not be able to find your board when your head is just above the water surface.

This gets a lot worse if you ride in the dusk around or after sunset

So eventhough the black carbon looks amazing in itself, I can not recommend it, and would get a color instead, maybe just at the edges so you can still enjoy the carbon look :D

If you never have difficulties spotting your board, it might not apply though :naughty:

I love my grooveskate!

But, I’ve noticed the middle area might be delaminating within. It seems to be able to be compressed about 3mm and returns (rebounds) immediately. Also, I’ve noticed it retains a bit of water after a session. It drains out over short time period.

Now I’m worried it may fail, leading to loss of foil. I’ve never jumped this board and there have not been any impacts/trauma events. I’ve ridden it since May.

Any one else notice anything similar?

If it dents like that and holds water it has crack(s) and major delamination with crushed core. Could be repaired by cutting out delam area, replacing area of crushed core foam, laminating new skin on top. Also need to find any cracks/holes....
Less thorough repairs will be temporary.

Could be caused from leaving board out when it’s really hot specially left in the sun... always try keep your board in the shade or ride it was a lot of discussion on a previous thread if someone could link it ...

Sorry to hear this.

Wonder if this is a common problem with these boards.
