Update on ss washer versus thinner fibre washer.
Fiber washer wins easy.
Had my best session todate on my 683 and in fact better than any foil I have experienced which are many.
Can you tell us the thickness of this fiber washer? Is it nylon from the hardware store? I cant see paying $20 for a plastic shim if this works fine...

Fibre washer is 1mm max thickness. Does not need to be a fibre washer anything non corrosive will do.
Plastic from drink bottles can do it.

683S fits on same fuse as the 633? And uses same stabiliser wing?

Spec says it's approx 250cm2 less area. Makes sense it has a bit less lift.
Wadda think of using it with 91cm mast?

Last update for me unless some significant revalation.
1mm fibre washer works for me with 683 when 28kph plus.
My average session speed now 25.4 kph and I am frequently over 30kph with a smooth comfortable ride.
I am sure more improvements ahead as we bond (683 & me) more.

personally,I would not be happy with a shorter mast than the 101, I did get a number of warnings when aggressively cranking round on waves, I have not had the chance to really push hard for high upwind angles as the water conditions have not been ideal for that,
I was even thinking of swapping one of my 101 masts for a 111mast.
so if anyone is looking for a swap, I am looking.
but that said I am sure if I change my style slightly the 101 masts will serve admirably :thumb:
and the same could be said for using a 91 mast I would guess,
but smaller than that then I would fear the wing popping out at sharp angles of lean.
saying that when I got my first warning I delayed reacting to it and tried to keep going with the tip out of the water, and all that happened was I progressively lost traction and ended up slowly sinking and finishing up in a perfect water start position, feet still perfectly in place,
in fact I used this soft landing "trick"to power into the shallows for a shallow water return to shore, smooth touchdown without spray.

As promised here is the Angle of Attack for the rear wing 483,
The setting is taken with the angle gauge set on zero when attached to the 683s front wing.
Result shows. 0•9 degrees down, very much like other wings I have measured.
I have no need at all to change this angle, it works perfectly for me weighing in at 90kg :coffee:
front foot straps set forward, rear foot placed against the rear strap but never in,
I move my rear foot forward a bit when either going for speed or dropping down waves or swell, in fact I do move my back foot around quite a bit to micro correct the trim for different situations.
Thank you very much for this information. I was looking for this data to check my mod 683s + Silente mast. 683s is not easy to measure the angle of attack - it needs 20-25cm caliper

... I was using my 101 masts.
Hi, hoping I could ask your opinion of the 101 used on 633/863?

I ride a T38/91cm/633, freeride and learning basic stuff. Plan on getting the 683 for a little more speed. Further on looking to get a ”free-race” faster setup perhaps. Foiling in low/med winds, all water conditions.

I am on the 91 today, which seems to be most peoples choice. I have an opportunity to switch it to a 101. Thinking it might be a good thing to do and complement with a shorter 71/81 mast for shallow spots. Nice to have longer mast on the 683 and in the future on a faster wing, both perhaps being more leaned back when riding.

Just curious if you saw any drawbacks on 633/683 being very laidback rides, to use with 101. I understand turning is a bit slower and perhaps that skate-feel is lost somewhat?

Thanks!

For me, changing to a 101 mast was a big improvement in every way I can think of, I could just let myself enjoy more sea shapes, crank round faster and harder, toeside became less scary at speed as my fear of breaching over waves diminished,
I felt absolutely no loss of any fun due to any sort of the dynamic foil movement I had with the 91 mast, in fact the only time I loose any sort of slash type skate feel is only when I change my board size, ie from 120 to 130cm then I can detect a very slight reduction in that quick slashy sort of feeling,

only 3 disadvantages of a longer mast for me - cost/shallow water/fitting assembled kit in the car, still looking to swap one of my 101 masts for a 111 :thumb:

I would caution anyone jumping up to the 101 mast too early in their foil journey, it may only be 10cm but when you swap over the first runs feel so much higher and more scary at speed if you lack the skill to move around the water with ease, you will increase your average speed very quickly.
but staying on a 91 may reduce your long term fun if you enjoy a bit of speed or sail in wavy locations.

Interesting to read about 683/683s. Makes me want the 683s.

for those who might know:
Is 683s as easy to ride as 633? as stable when riding slow? as beginner friendly?

wich is the fastest out of 683s and 590?

Im trying to learn with 590 and 101cm mast. its a bit hard. Now thinking to get a 71cm mast, a moses surf fuse and an easy wing. That would maybe be 683s or 873 (tortuga) or the new 790.
There's not many reviews of the tortuga, and im wating for a review of the 790. If the 790 is pretty fast for its size, easy and carves great, then it could be a nice wing.

I can foil when using my friends slingshot infinity 84cm (close to Tortuga in size and shape)+60cm mast.
