Interesting to read about 683/683s. Makes me want the 683s.

for those who might know:
Is 683s as easy to ride as 633? as stable when riding slow? as beginner friendly?

wich is the fastest out of 683s and 590?

Im trying to learn with 590 and 101cm mast. its a bit hard. Now thinking to get a 71cm mast, a moses surf fuse and an easy wing. That would maybe be 683s or 873 (tortuga) or the new 790.
There's not many reviews of the tortuga, and im wating for a review of the 790. If the 790 is pretty fast for its size, easy and carves great, then it could be a nice wing.

I can foil when using my friends slingshot infinity 84cm (close to Tortuga in size and shape)+60cm mast.
590 and 101 is not exactly a beginner setup but also it’s mot that far being one. Lots of people learnt on long mast and smaller wings than 590. If you keep practicing you’d ride it pretty solid pretty soon.

633 is not fast, 790 would be slower than 633
683s should be in the pretty “1000 sq.cm.” middle between 633 and 590 and if you can wait for a month for expected larger wing for your 647 fuselage it’d be most modular setup to get.

interesting read,
looking at your gear and what you say about finding it hard to learn, I would offer a word of caution,
I do know a few people who have given up foiling as they found it all too hard, they had less than ideal gear, and maybe fell into a group of guys who became disillusioned not being able to just get going with flair and ease, "cos it looks so easy! " it rarely is for most folks.
you say you can foil on your mates learner gear, well there is the gateway into enjoying your learning journey,
I bought a 101 mast right at the beginning along with a 91cm but kept the 101 mast unwrapped in the car, I was finding the 91 cm mast hard enough, and the thought of even trying my 101mast back then was a very scary prospect,
so I sold it to a sailing buddy who is way better than me and was ready for the step up,
I was a full year learning before I bought another 101 mast, I knew I was ready, but it still scared me for a few sessions,
then the 91 cm mast was sold never to be missed.

I have them both but haven't ridden my 683S yet because it's still snowing in Hood River. I will be in Mexico at the end of March to try it out, but unlikely I'll have them both in the water before then. If you can wait that long, I can give my feedback comparing the two.

they are worlds apart in lift ability, kite size requirement, stability and most importantly for me, muscle memory requirements.
in short If I only had my 590 wing set and then used the 683s in any wind or wave condition then the 590 would be history,

I did have both, I did the back to back comparison with all my other moses wings and now today I only have the 633 and the 673s, the others are now all history.

so good its the future. :thumb:

Can you jump with the 683s? I’ve been told it’s unwise to jump the 633 especially if you are learning to jump on foil.

I think 590 would kick ass in means of going fast but won’t have lowend of 683s.
On the other hand the 683s is not that much faster than 633 and 633 feels relatively slow but great lightwind wing.

If I had a choice of 683s + 633 vs 590 + “larger wing for 647 fuselage” I’d opt out for the second option.

Speaking of kite size - I rather foil under quicker/smaller feasible kite as they’re most fun so the 9m becomes a choice for lowend (633) and 5/7m are “usual suspects” for 590. But riding 5/7m with 633 is awesome as well if wind allows (and faster 590 feels too fast for smaller riding areas)

My muscle memory works about same for both wings but I move mast back when riding a slow wing

I'm curious about your Idea of what is "relatively slow" when talking about the 633 wing? I ride the 633 wing(T38 LTD) and have no issues going 30-40 kph(28-32ish kph session average). Now compared to a race wing that would be considered "relatively slow" but IMO the 633 is "relatively faster" than most any comparable sized wings on the market. For me, only other wing on the market that has the appeal of the 633 is the Levitaz Cruzier. Thats what makes the 633 unique, it can go very slow ,yet go plenty fast enough to entertain you. It has a huge wind range and gets me @200lbs on a 6m Airush Ultra in 15 knots.

I rode 590 and 633 side by side and I can fly the hell out of 590 while 633 felt not as fast and doesn't accelerate as fast. I know you can push 633 fast but not as much as thinner, faster wing. Some would say I need to try 645 to get a proper feeling of "flying the hell out" though. I should.

At 200 lbs and being able to ride 5m Rally in 16 knots too. Nice touch of magic :)
