I still dont get this Bob, USA is still only one out of 195 countries, with a very different way than many others, so location and culture is everything IMO, and one can not broadscast a single country worldwide as being "how it is"

8) PF
You try to explain the world outside the USA to an American?
From what I've seen people in the sport are all the same good crowd.
Some customs might be shocking to learn though. Things like root beer and having 2/3 of world tiger population in the country are fun but not easy to comprehend for foreigners either. I don't see those 7000 tigers just as I don't see much wakefoilers Bob can see in data he has..
It doesn't mean they don't exist.

If Bob says he has worldwide sales information, I believe him.

There are 320 million more people in the US than Denmark.

Think you can count Australia and Canada as pretty solid wake boarding markets too.

Yes, Peter. Denmark and Sweden are actually rather on the edge concerning watersports.
We have a lot of water around us, a different tradition and culture in relation to water.
Closer to the elements, sparsely populated, and our conditions and climate foster a unique approach. People doing near-water sports year round are not mainstream. It's difficult to explain.
( I am outsider American who moved to Sweden 35 years ago).
We are less motorised, more Yoyo.
I think that around the world people in this bubble are more similar than our Base culture would lead you to believe, but these cultural differences effect adoption.

According to this, there are about 3 million wakeboarder in the US.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/191 ... ince-2006/

Wikipedia says there are about 1.5 million kiteboarder world wide.

1.5M as of 2012. Most of Kiteboarders would own their equipment (kite/board) which I wouldn't say about wakeboarders (many of which a cable park riders with equipment more portable and more modest than a foil)

Sure sure, I'm no boater or wakeboarder. Just a quick search to point out that the wake industry is very large compared to kiteboarding.

There are a hell of a lot more occasional wakeboarders or households that own a boat and a board than 3 million. It's the cottagers man. They love trends. It was once waterskis, then surfers, then wakeboards..... soon enough foils.

Thank goodness foiling will require a little more skill than tubing! There are heaps more of them!! Wikipedia says there are about 17 million recreational motor boaters in the US.

Peter, one of the things that you are missing here is that what Bob is telling you (and so am I), is that we KNOW that Wakefoils are outselling the others. Not anecdotally from what we SEE, but from what the sales figures show in the industry. I have also never seen anyone wake foiling, but...it's damn sure happening!

Of course, globally I believe that they are outselling, both wakeboards and wakefoils, but I did not question that at all.

I say that this is not the case in EVERY location/country.

I rarely see a wakeboarder here, not talking about wakefoilers, but even a normal wakeboarder is not a thing that is really done much here, as I am just next to the sea and harbours on flat days too.

As said, there will be a few lakes (but we dont have many, and motorboats usually not allowed) where it is done, and done as a small sport too here and there, or in the 4 cableparks we got.

Sailing (keelboats/yachting/dinghys/catamarans/trimarans/windsurf/kitesurf with or without foils) is by far a major big sport around here.
I would estimate the same for New Zealand, dont know, just guessing

Looking at the numbers in Denmark from a year ago:

6 to 7 % of the full danish population are sailors, 350000 to 400000 are sailing (and yes, in some vessels there can be more than one, I know).
It seems, estimated from the wake/waterski club members and associations in Denmark, that wakeboarders+waterskiers are only in total 0.2 % of the population, roughly only 3 % of the number of active sailors, that is very low, compared.

Even if the numbers are not fully correct, they are still lightyears apart from each other in terms of "how many", in Denmark, that was my point - that one can not generalize for all countries, based on worldwide sales :D
