I don't get what's impressive about that transition, it was a simple toeside to healside carve from an professional SUP foiler who used to be a professional kitesurfer, no foot switch, just a downwind carve.

from Tomo's Bio:

I was Professional Kite surfer from 2000 for 10 years and started Stand Up Paddling from 2005.
I participate to World SUP event and Molokai to Oahu 32mile from 2010.
STARBOARD TEAM 2008-2018.
I love Foiling, surfing, paddling, I love Ocean, I want to be Waterman.

lol
dangit man..

i was trying my darndest to be a a nice positive dude today.

it was the first video i've seen that wasnt a 5 sec spice of someone getting blown downwind (so props for that too...i guess)

So, who here honestly feels tempted by any part of that video for those conditions (15+ knots open water ) ?

We get that it works by now. No need for proof of concept. Now you gotta make it look enticing.

Fail.

well I am tempted for one , because the beach right in front of my waterfront is a NO/NO for kite Forbidden and Dangerous ... but no issue getting out on a wing !

it will not replace my loop sessions
it will not replace my kitefoil sessions
it will not replace my days at the cable park
it will not replace my flat water unhooked freestyle sessions
it will not replace my surf/supfoil session

IT IS JUST ANOTHER ADDITION TO MY EXISTING FUN ...

no one said one has to be monogamous when it comes to watersports !

But what part of that actually looks like fun? I mean, I guess there are those that like to run, and those that like to paddle, but as a wind driven sport it just seems like the worst possible option!

No, not saying you have to give anything up. Just noting that looking at that video the only thing I find remotely good about it is the guys stoke. I would rather swim out from any number of local spots you can't launch a kite than do that. There is just nothing about the entire sport that would tempt me. Rather windfoil than that.

The day someone can lay down jibe one maybe I'll change my mind.

I agree. Slow and boring. But I'd say the same of 99% of home made kite videos on here. Yet people still seem to be stoked enough on mowing the lawn that they bother to make a video. Or show a GPS track of them zig zagging on their foil. Or tell stories about their stoke in finally staying upwind, etc. It's fun just to get on the water and be out there. And there's something nearly magic about all forms of foiling as it seems like it shouldn't be possible but you're up there doing it. Even if it looks like nothing. It's fun.

The video guy is stoked, that is a sufficient answer for "why would anyone want to do this".

People are posting that they are stoked to try. Reports of surprisingly fun sessions are starting to pop up. Fun is happening. Why so serious, what's wrong with just having fun?

Cant argue there.

Most home grown kite media...… riding, is lack lustre for third party viewing.

Fun is fun, but I really needed to see potential in Kite foiling to have any interest. The race stuff that was first prevalent is as bland to me today as it was then.

Like I said, when someone rips a nice big lay down jibe.
