Someone mentioned this in a prior post :
1. It can be windsurfed, but it's slower than a windsurfer.
2. The sail isn't see through like a windsurfer and it isn't above you like a kitesurfer, so you can run into more stuff
3. The sail is handheld 100% of the time so gusts can either knock you off, or make your back hurt.
4. You get the inconvenience of an enormous windsurfing board, mounting a foil, and the inconvenience of having to pump a kite up.
5. Costs the same as a small kite.

It's pure genius.

since these kite wing things arent exactly a novel idea....and didnt really catch on back then (it was..lame)


maybe we can re-release something else from those early kitesurf days....but was actually successful.?!
re-release the wipika....and brand it as the kewlest and most "simple" boosting kite(for a foil) on the market.

Guissan local Jerome Thebault finished 41st in the Defi Kite on a kitefoil out of 400.

He used the Duotone wing to complete both 40km races in the Defi Wind - finished about 380? out of 1175 windsurfers and one wingfoiler. Wind, 25 knots.
He got a spot in the highlights video (2:29 & 4:18) and seemed to be travelling at about one third the speed of the fastest windsurfers.

It is about a 40km race with 3 gybes, so he would have been passing the wingfoiler having covered almost 3 times the distance the wingfoiler had covered. I'm not sure that it was recorded during the race, but the windsurfer in that video is listed as 34.62 knots over 500m (he finished 24th). It wasn't considered a strong wind for there.

The idea of this wing does seem quite silly. The main benefit to riding on a wave does seem a possibility. But the shots of Sky wave riding with it don't show anything special except one hand is occupied holding onto this thing. What happens when the wing luffs and you have to hold it up or it gets pushed back on to you? Given they are riding large hydrofoils how small kites could they be on vs this wing? A foil kite, single skin or hybrid would be way easier to setup and carry.

The wing is a nice shape for a kite. I have always wanted a dihedral kite so it would self stabilize on slack lines.
