gap between kite sizes

Postby mar menor » Sat Apr 13, 2019 3:22 pm

Considering a13 Ozone HL v2 with a Peter Lynn Nova 10m (have the 10 Nova already) , is a 3m gap too big,too small or a good combo? 70kg rider with Onda633,winds from 8-20kts.
I am not interested in other brands, only ozone and Peter Lynn

its about OK, If Nova is similar to HL power/size. How do you like Nova - can you compare with HL?

70kg & Onda - I‘d expect the Lynn already to cover your intended low wind range and doubt you to enjoy it above +/-14 kts. Onda @ your weight would suit a 5-6m LEI in 20kts

Thanks for the comments. As I am learning to foil am avoiding low wind conditions -10 ,for now,but as I improve and we start to get light summer conditions that will probably change .From 15+ will be on wave kites.
As I sell both brands I cannot give an "unbiased " opinion and at my level ( of foiling) not sure how valid my comments would be.
What I can say, coming from an LEI background,I am representative of the 'target market' and ,for me,they are an easy transition from tube kites, fun to fly, better for foiling and high quality.

As a beginner foiler, you'll need to be fully powered. So that 10 might be on the small side. At 8knots winds are really 6-10? Then you'll need a bigger kite.
I'm on Hyperlink 9m Ultralight and it works well from 10.
I'm on Sonic 2 13m in 8knots. Im waiting to hear how the hyperlinkv2 13m performs in light wind before making any changes.
I'll be able to demo a 11m Hyperlink V2 this spring and see what it does. My local dealer decided not to take a 13m demo 😑

Dealers have been advised to take the 11m as 'the' demo kite as it is a good size for mid range LEI/twin tip riders.13m ,in my opinion ,is primarily aimed at foilers.

I don’t have foil kites anymore, but for a beginner foiler, I think 13 could be a handful. I don’t think someone your size needs anything bigger than a 10m unless racing. Racers use huge kites, but free riders do not. If you have very steady and light wind, then maybe. I found that any kite bigger then a 10m means I will swim in when the lull hits. Hydrofoiling in light wind is very technical, so big kites really don’t make sense until you are quite good, in my opinion. If you live in one of those rare areas that have very steady light wind, then maybe.

A 13 to 10m is a small gap for foil kites, normally go from 10 to 15.

I also agree that the gap is too small but with the Onda 633, a 15m will really be too big. More like a 12/8m quiver would be best. Depending on how powerful that Nova is, increasing line length might be enough. Riding my 633 with a micro board, my 8m Soul basically has become my one kite quiver and I rarely pull out anything larger.

If he went Ultralight a 15m would be fine or looked at another model like FreeRS ultralight which looks very light. But for the target windrange the 10m should be doing 8knots fine? 15m should make 3-4knots the lower limit. 12 and 8 would be good, but he said he was trying to complement his 10.
