similar hydrofoil boards to groove skate

Postby clydesdale » Wed May 15, 2019 12:07 am

any kite companies or board specific companies have a similar board to the 120-130cm groove skate? or is anyone importing them?

specifically like the rocker/big nose kick for touchdowns. i see topic on them mentioning a long delay for european buyers and worried about shipping and warranty issues in usa

KS’s Mari Macho 42” may be worth a look. They’re from Hawaii

Ketos has that big scoop earlier I think?

Sexy board but would require a KF box foil.

Its so nice to attach the foil with one screw and done. So light!

Think you are right jakemoore, Ketos apparently started the trend with this extreme scoop on shorter boards long time ago, and Groove and others followed.

That is great, if some finds something that works really well, others go that way too of course, this is not copying (unless a china direct copy) but an advantage for all us buyers/users :thumb:

Just like freeride/wave wings are often between 800 and 1200 cm2 (or even bigger) now, because ??? started this particularly for waves, instead of the first around 500 to 650 cm2 that was used mostly when not beginner wings, not many years ago.

Great brands follow the "good" things so fast

PS: Yes, love the "1 screw" fast a/disa-ssembly too.
Having a plate mount on the board, one can use an adapter, from KFBox to platemount.
I use one for a small skimboard I use now and then.

I love the look of the Ketos gear, a few guys who own them have been on Flag beach when I was there and I was in awe at the workmanship of this kit, as good as Moses and maybe better in some respects, the boards are really nice, and the carbon fuse is lovely.
however the price of the carbon wings made me gulp, a front wing for 600 euro, and that fuse is mega expensive at 590 euro, but worth every euro as it is a work of art.
looks are important if your are spending so much.

I testet the Mioboard last week compared to my groove 120.

It has a more solid wood frame constructinon. It is less wide to go deeper upwind. With 130 it was a bit longer and scoop is a bit more flat for less drag riding with the foil in the water:
