Just assume you will mess up a transition or trip over hitting a marine life and will get kite into the drink

I have a 9m Turbine and rode 5m Turbine with incredible looping powespike and I'm pretty much certain that's way over of what I even need on a foil. On the other hand SST doesn't deliver enough of looping powerspike and I'd be struggling pulling out my 200lbs out of water onto the board. The Cloud just folds into a "C" kite upon looping and applying bar pressure - I admire Greg's riding style and drive to simplify things but the Cloud kites (and BRM attitude I learnt from a friend who wanted to buy a Cloud at one moment) is beyond of what I'm willing to deal with. Tried once and it was a joke.

Slingshot Rally is my happy middle ground - I can lightwind foil on my 9m and I can boost on same kite with a twintip.

I just started foiling with gong strutless 10 m. It’s punchy and very light. Stays in the air from 5-6 knots. I was able to ride with 30 m lines on 6-8 knots day no problem. I’m 73 kg on freeride wing. Even if you drop this kite you can reverse relaunch. Really happy with this kite. Top end for me is 13-14 knots on 22 m lines.

If your happy with a Rally as a big kite for foiling, good for you, but you are absolutely on the money when you describe it as middle ground.

Heavy and sluggish in the low end with loads of power once moving or in a wide arc loop. Pretty good relaunch considering the weight.

Basically if your good with a Rally foiling, your compromised enough to rationalize pretty much any old 9m out there for foiling. Everything works, but in the end its about finding what works well for your style.

We'll see how you feel about rallys for foiling in another couple years.

Last year I used a Solo 12M and it was good to ~7knts. This year I've changed to 10.4M BRM and it's good to ~5knts. The 12 had more grunt to get you going but the 10.4 hangs in the air unbelievably well and turns way better too. Drop either kite in light wind and you're done.

Two weeks back I flew 9m Peak3 in OBX when everyone else was off the water and I tried to fly the Peak with 633 wing. Certainly that thing flies in 3 knots (flown few years back) - probably in less that my Revolution kite can do (I fly the 1.5). It generates nice pull in the loops of which I honestly expected less. But the way it is slow and missing that "sluggish dive" which would get me out of water and somewhat atop the board was the challenge. I did ride, but it wasn't fun, and that's the reason I don't do large sizes. I'm pretty certain I'd ridden under a 15m foil kite in same condition but it comes to the meh moment. I'd do it once to prove a point but I'd rather ride a 5m or a 7m when it blows well.

But funny that you mention turn radius and so when it blows hard and I foil under 5m I tell myself that I need an SST to turn faster. And as of relaunch - when someone can point me to a kite which relaunches better than Rally - I'd love to give it a try.

I think in couple of years I will replace my current Rallys - certainly the smallest and the largest for freeride foiling kites primarily and leave 7/9m wings to be universal ones.

As of weight - I'm not very worried about Rallies either. Yes the 2012 Rally's were very light and would be amazing foiling wings but I just don't want to have two quivers and 2012 were bending when I started boosting. Pumping them harder helped a bit but when looping I was told few times that i abuse the kites. So there's some better middle ground - I'd take lighter kite but I sure want it to be structured well. Ocean Rodeo seems like a candidate people referred to...:)

You could also go for the 12 m2 Ozone Alpha, as it is superlight, got 1 strut (easier to drift ashore in marginal winds compared to strutless), and is available in your area (as opposed to the strutless but superlight Cloud)

Could be worried it does not have sufficient punch/size to get you as low as you might desire, but this kite is a great choice IMO.

8) Peter
I have 3 small Clouds but also the Ozone Alpha 10m with 25 meters line as biggest kite.
I love the Clouds but don't change the Alpha for a Cloud because in lightwind, the Alpha is much easier for waterrelaunch. The easiest kite I know for lightwind relaunch.

I think that it's Ok for you in 7 8 kts with the gong strtless v3. Peharps you should have longer lines in the light Wind, its better.

I'm curious about how much difference there is between 10m and 12m single strut kites on the foil? If not searching for ultimate light wind riding, which I think is a different kite, is there much difference between the 10m and 12m? Say Airush Ultra or Ozone Alpha? Say for an 80kg rider on a 1200cm2 foil. Hope to do some real-world testing but I'm thinking it's a trade-off of slightly more low end on the 12m to more range with the 10m. I've had some really good days on my 12m wave kite but it is a very narrow sweet spot on the foil where I can barely keep the kite in the air to almost too much power.
Those of you (average weight) on 1100-1200 wings, what are your thoughts on 10m vs 12m?
Thanks
Tony
