Naish 2018 and 2019 interchangeable? or not.

Postby CARMELHILL » Wed Jun 19, 2019 5:57 pm

This past winter I started picking up some end of year used gear. I bought the 2018 Naish 90cm mast, 2018 KS1 front and back wing, 2018 fuselage, and 2018 mast plate. After reading a bit more I ordered a 2019 55cm mast and the 2018 WS-1 front wing because it would be better for slow speed learning. 2018 and 2019 gear are supposed to be interchangeable.

I finally have some free time, and I'm having a lot of trouble getting the 2019 55cm mast to fit into the 2018 gear. It's supposed to be interchangeable but I checked with a digital micrometer and it's longer by 2mm and wider by 1mm. Anyone else have a similar issue or workaround? I'm hesitant to use my angle grinder to shave off the excess aluminum from both ends of the mast but I've started. The 2018 90cm mast slides into both parts easily.

Hi CARMELHILL thanks for the info,

I think you already answered your question yourself:
Naish 2018 and 2019 seems to be not interchangeable. Strange, especially if they don't comunicate this, or has anybody heared something?

I just would give the new strut back even if you already worked on it and would try to get an old one or maybe one from GONG, who uses the same profile but for much less costs (and without the Naish sticker  )

The question to me and you then would just be:
Is the 2018 (what I would expect) or 2019 Naish the GONG stuff.

I tried to meter my 09/2018 GONG profile as good as I can without a vernier calliper:
Profile length:
109,6 +/- 0,3 mm
Profile thickness:
14,0 +/- 0,2 mm

Hope you get further values from other to confirm.

(the picture is one maybe a bit older gong profile, in which the holes haven't been in the continuous casting profile, but obviously have been cutted after, why those holes are a bit unsymetrical and don't run through the whole strut. The struts I bought 11/2018 had a profile with continous casted holes, which therefore also have been more symmetrical. The outer profile dimensions and holes distances had been precisely the same, even by < 0,1 mm)

I've got it to fit now. Ground down a little more. I did contact Naish and they told me I could grind down and if I still wasn't satisfied they would hook me up. But I'm fine with it. I probably ruined the resale value, but I just want it to work so I can head out later this week.

Can you give absolute values for profile thickness of both generations? Just to know which generation is compatible with the fuse, strut and plate of GONG? Thanks

As the plate looks apart from the oval holes 100% the same would expect that all is from the same maybe chinese manufacturer, main difference seems to be pricing.

I would contact the naish dealer you got the gear from. Well I guess its a bit late since you already started grinding, but I would expect it to be interchangeable. If not there must be a cheap 2018 mast floating about in stores or on the naish website?

NAISH 2019, GONG 2018-2019 and AIRUSH 2019 should have these dimensions:
