a QR to me is like insurance.
no one needs insurance until..you know....they actually need it.

i can only recall needing to use a QR once the last few seasons ....but man, i'm glad i had it at that moment.
My system features a QR which kills the kite better than for example this classic one:
viewtopic.php?t=2402072

However it is not dedicated for beginners.
I am testing a similar system for them but with a double flag out (double cleat). Both power lines might be released independently.
There are two symmetrical QR balls connected by one short leash.
Pictures soon.

BTW 1
I won't be popular stating that I have had dozens of accidents and problems due to an accidental release of QR and not a single time I really needed it in last dozen years of kiting.
In emergency I use better ways than QR to come back to safety zone.

BTW 2
Read a summary from one of popular kite schools yesterday that only 3% of beginners practically know how and when to use a QR.
hard to deny that Mr.Wannabee heard that a QR must be used in a case if SOMETHING happens. But he has rather no clue what the SOMETHING means.

BTW 3
Update from IKA for coming competitions: a flag out IS NOT required anymore for RAM kites.

If a beginner doesn’t know how and when to use the QR then school and instructors failed.

Great ideas here!
Could explain the aim of the black elastic rope on the red ball , and detail when the inox trigger shall be but on one side or on the other side of this elastic ?

If you really want the minimum system.
The front lines really only hold the kite (and the bar via the stopper) at a certain distance. You could set the stopper at your ideal arm length.

The rear lines are the control lines. So if you had the rear lines going from the kite into the ends of the bar and exiting at the centre of the bar, where they are joined into a single line, then you could trim the power with that single line and steer the kite with the bar while the bar was resting against the stopper. The rear lines have little tension, so it is easier to trim the power with them, than by using the front lines.

It would be a simplified version of what you were doing by manipulating the lines in your (no bar) video?

The aim is the same as for a normal QR ball.
Knots of elastic rope are placed outside the ball.
IMO this another mean of tangling into a bridle.
Just compare below.

Two knots outside:

One knot hidden inside:

Less chances for a tangle.

The trigger's position - does not matter IMO. Works well above and underneath the elastic rope.

Fully agree. It would be easier for often adjustments. However I do not touch depower. I do not need it except emergency situations.

These guys managed to build something similar to your idea what I like a lot:
./bar?fbclid=Iw ... Zk&lang=en

I see one disadvantage of this system now - it would accidentally disconnect pretty easy - especially by the snapshackle.
Not sure why two QRs are needed.
I am sure that Rainer and Yasmin are working on this issue now. I enjoy their way of thinking - out of the box

I was thinking of the active control of the power of the kite with one hand and steering with the other from having seen racers trimming the front lines with one hand while steering with the other. They seemed to do that partly to help stabilise their stance, so they could use their weight more to hold more power rather than having to lean toward the kite and losing leverage to hold the power.

That PINTXO bar is a simple way to trim the rear lines - I like it. :thumb:

Anybody got any insights into how the Pintxo rear line adjustment works? Short of knocking up a prototype I'm not 100% certain what I am seeing.

I'm guessing:
- the thin black line on the right side is some bungy to keep the slack tidy.
- a slot in the end of the bar stops the adjustment knot from being pulled inside the bar setting the length of the right line.
- the left hand line would have a pulley on the end inside the bar.
- the right hand line passes through that pulley and comes back out through the bar end.
- the pulley shares the change in the right side line with the left side line.

Is it that or something more simple? Can you get away without a pulley?

another upgrade of the system.
This time a Cabrinha cleat has been integrated with a Cabrinha ultra small swivel.
I found the system working well so final decision was to make a hard connection instead a soft line.

I added a black plastic ball to protect a carbon bar:

safety only for the eagles:

BTW. I like self landing by realising two front lines. It works fine for me in any conditions.

A harness with new system:

Original Cabrinha cleat weights 63gr.
Upgrade of the same cleat with added swivel and a ring for a harness swipe line weights 81 gr. Not bad ;)

Can you show the workings of the quick release when you are wearing the harness and are fully suspended on the depower rope/power lines to simulate a loaded emergency situation?

If the qr ball in your "ready to go" picture is at the top of the loop (trim pulled just a bit more) it is impossible to activate and I am very curious how well the depower cord can be pulled out of the cleat when fully loaded.

As far as I see it, this is just a permanent connection to the kite when riding, and only easy to disconnect without line tension before and after flying your kite.

A QR ball is released and then I need to pull a rope out of the cleat's teeth.
More load = easier to release.
Done it many times.

Next upgrade will be to remove a top connecting part of the cleat to make it even smoother and quicker.
The cleat will be lighter around 20 gr too.

still testing.
