Interesting than why you not got 111cm moses mast if you say that 10 cm makes big difference ?

har! yes good point.
but I would then be unable to fit it into my MPV attached to my board, the 101 just fits, and the cost is silly anyways, so having a spare long carbon mast mast would give me life changing injuries,
after my wife tries to kill me.

Back on subject, cutting a mast.
anybody trying this simple job would be well advised to buy a 3 tap set, as in the photo, only £5.90 from Ebay, there are loads of cheap full sets which are just best to chuck in the bin, from china and rubbish, no taper taps to start the thread and many far to short, you will need a tap wrench as well which will cost around £12-15 for a half decent one, you do need a bar type not the one handed variety for tiny thread cutting.
applying WD40 every half turn is critical, and after 3 full turns and a good spray down each flute reverse the tap right out and clear the tap of aluminium swarf which will only damage the thread if you leave it in there whilst cutting, go deep past the cutting threads to ensure you don't bottom out the mast bolts.

I wonder how i could join up two short masts?

I used a cheap tap set in my cordless drill after drilling out the extrusion hole to match the original hole. The drill starts to lose grip on the tap after a few threads and I backed up to remove waste and add a drop of oil. It took about 5 times of this to finish after 5 minutes. I tried it on the cutoff section first!
I have a 36”(90cm) mast too but like the shorter 75cm mast for waves since the wing needs to be high in the wave to feel the power especially in small waves

Tapping threads using a drill.... I’m not sure that is a good idea :o I do this kind of work by hand.

The tap spins in the chuck before the drill bogs down but it worked fine on the cutoff 15cm waste and the 75cm mast. 4 holes tapped in 5 minutes. I wouldn’t try it on steel but aluminum is pretty soft. I can’t imagine trying to cut the mast by hand with a hacksaw. The miter saw cut it quickly and exactly

How about grub screws (headless), half left-handed, half right-handed thread, and a loooong allen key (unless the short mast piece is just ~5")?

The main issue I see is the cost of such custom made screws + extra tooling cost that all together may exceed the price of a long Alu mast.
