360 - board hits the surface at 75% of the move?

Postby wavy navy » Thu Jul 25, 2019 8:57 am

Hi,
I sticked a few 360s now. But after three quarters the board hits the surface of the water. I then loose nearly all of my speed. What's wrong?

Not sent the kite far enough (not pulled hard enough)?
Not kicked the back of the board?
Too slow approach?

1) If you are late in relation to the kite when entering the 360 pulling on the bar will slow you down. You need to enter the 360 with your kite really high and pull constantly.

2) No need to kick the back of the board, a good constant carve works best.

3) A 360 can be performed with very little speed if the timing is right. As an example, I managed 11 consecutive 360' yesterday with no straight line riding in between rotations so no chance to pick up speed.

Good advice above ^^^. I was having the same problem as you and I found that initiating the kite loop earlier was the thing that fixed it for me. You may be waiting too long to start the loop. Try starting the loop at, or just before the halfway mark of the turn.

Also, try aiming for a 270 (till the board is pointing straight downwind) rather than 360. This will help in keeping the glide through the maneuver + will give you the option of going for a heel to toeside tack without foot change if required.
