Strapless tack how avoid kipping?

Thanks everyone. Seems like 360 / 180is best to try first.
I'm on the best gear: Hyperlink 7-9-13. Moses 633.
But my board is 110 with very little volume..
The surface tack would probably work if I had a big board.

Why? If you are doing a flying tack it's better to have a small/light board. You only need to tray it 100 times in every kiting day ( literally)

I started just trying to ride around through upwind, cos I couldn't get my head around how the move should work

Key point was timing the kite -- had to commit to sending the kite over then riding around behind it. Easier to do with some power and a small fast kite. I started with trying to tack and managed some, but actually got the 360 first then the tack got easier. I can see where you'd change feet mid-move now...

75cm mast and 82cm wing so I try to minimize my "kipping"

A bit funny, just like those newcomers writing "What is the very best kite or board or whatever you can get?"

I know your point probably wasnt to say your gear is the best you can get, but to emphasize you mean it is most likely not the gear, but you - it is still a bit funny though

All I meant was that I can't blame my gear! Hyperlink is super friendly and lots of lift in transition.

It was great conditions today on 9 m Hyperlink, the kite I know well.

Today I tried to roll behind the lines. After a few tries I almost made it flying. Then on one I was really aggressive in the turn and kite and I came around toeside. I was surprised! What a feeling. I had focused on the turn and kite and forget the foot switch!
So I kept trying that. I did a few more of 10 tries.
I had done 90 min so went in to rest and hang with the family.

Went out again and did one one first try, then about 15 of them of various quality. Falling 60% of the time. I was really stoked.
A few times I was doing a 360 but kite was going 180 so turned back the board mid 360.
Did another 20km and wind started dropping.

Nice thing about this transition is if you fall , you are pulled away from the board.

Can't wait to get out again.

I've done a few tacks instead of the 360 I was planning because I messed up the timing of either board or kite

I really believe the best thing to do is to empty your head and relax and just do it, feel the wind and water. I've done a single tack and a few 360s that were flawlessly smooth and perfectly timed ... and now I'm chasing the dragon.

BTW when you -- or anyone else here -- 360 do you feel a clunk like driving over train tracks as you cross your submarine wake?

There's a few things that I've learned in this early stage:
Kite timing in relation to board turning is critical.
Bend knees
Look where you are going to go. This one is so basic and important, but surprised how often I don’t.
As you come up wind, lean into lines. It's weird and not normal.
I have terrible forward leaning posture, even on dry land, so consciously keeping chest up helps a lot.

After completing a few, I totally agree to go with the flow and empty your head.
