Funny,
I quit using the hockey helmet with face guard a while ago, but it was nice to have the protection. Unfortunatley, I was a bit late with it and was not really crashing enough to justify it. Any one have crashes at a intermediate level of experience to justify continued use?
I think there is always a risk especially if you foil at speed. Probably much less so if you are just floating about
not necessarily...
my son got a nasty throat cut from the front wing, messing around with a low speed duck tack.
Ok thanks for worrying me! was it a sharp front wing?

My plan is to make my hockey/hydrofoil helmet my new water helmet without the face guard when my Protec "ace wake" finally gives out. I mean, how much more protection could you noggin need than a hockey helmet?
...
What Hockey helmet, do you use ; does it drain water easy ?
I need a Large one.

I have extensively used this helmet and it is very good for water use - I believe it is designed for ice hockey so is basically water proof and does not hold water and will stay on even if you have a massive wipeout

I am not sure how much protection that would provide if the foil axes you in the head.

This is it. It drains water fine. The chin support on the metal face guard kind of holds your mouth closed a bit. So it's not ideal for when you're flopping around in the water. But it gets the job done and the metal face guard does have fairly small holes so the stabilizer can't poke in. Sorry for taking so long to get you the pic.
And just to reiterate, I have not used it for quite some time. That's why I intend to possibly make it my water helmet without the face guard sometime in the future when my current helmet finally dies.
