I quit using the hockey helmet with face guard a while ago, but it was nice to have the protection. Unfortunatley, I was a bit late with it and was not really crashing enough to justify it. Any one have crashes at a intermediate level of experience to justify continued use?
My plan is to make my hockey/hydrofoil helmet my new water helmet without the face guard when my Protec "ace wake" finally gives out. I mean, how much more protection could you noggin need than a hockey helmet? And why in the heck is a hockey helmet lower profile than a wakeboarding helmet?

I think there is always a risk especially if you foil at speed. Probably much less so if you are just floating about

my son got a nasty throat cut from the front wing, messing around with a low speed duck tack.

i believe lacrosse goalie helmets have decent throat protection...
(maybe hockey goalies too)

WInd was blowing 25-40. Swell was 3-5 feet.
