Which size of Peak 4 for 85kg in 15 to 19kts?

Postby rolfjoosten » Mon Aug 12, 2019 12:23 pm

I am very curious on the Peak 4 for use in medium wind foiling in Barbados' waves and swells. I weigh around 85kg and use Moses 683s with T22board on 101mast.
I have followed all the threads of the Peak 4 but am still unsure whether the 4m or the 5m size is the correct one for me. I want to use the kite for riding swells and waves and like underpowered foiling. My plan is to use the peak in our medium winds which I would say are between 15 and 19kts. Which size would be best? :?:
Thanks for any input :thumb:

I would choose 5. Is perfect in that range and you can go a little lower. Much over 20 it gets to be flappy.
I think the 4 can work in that range but you may really have to work it or wait for a gust to get started closer to 15 knots. 4 if you think you might push higher winds.

4 and 5m are very different kites. U might absolutely love 4, but absolutely hate 5.
Not my experience, but from the Peak rider, 60kg.

I will also choose 4. But they are soo small and cheap that you should get both or all 3, /3,4,5/

I also dont agree about 4 and 5 soo different - they are same kites and share same DNA. 5 is still quick turning kite.

me 86kg 633 i will use 5 from maybe 11knts - then 4 from 15 and then 3 from 20

basicaly look what LEI sizes TT guys are riding and divide it 3. So 15m TT wind take 5 - 12m TT wind is 4 - 9m TT wind is 3
Windsurfing scale is 5m is sooner than 7,5m sails - 4m is about 6m sails, and 3m is 5m and less.

i'm about 75 kg these days....
..and a 5m would work for me in those wind ranges...
probably mucho flapping as you push 20

both the 4 and 5 will have pretty good range(and overlap)
you'll have to decide if you wanted the extra low end with a 5m...or did you want better upper on the 4m.

(or just buy a 3m and 5m together and call it a day)

I’m exactly at 85kg like you and had a session in 14-22 knots this weekend on the Peak4 4m with a Moses T22 & Onda 633. With a large wing like the 633 this is a great range but with a smaller wing i would go for the 5m. A slow kiteloop was needed to get up foiling when the wind was 15 knots and 14 is really my limit, it’s not as effective in the low range as a Soul. But great fun around 18-22 for sure!

Thank you for all your replies. :thumb:
It seems like there is no right and wrong between 4m and 5m Peak. I will most likely choose the 5m as I want the kite for the lower wind range where my 8m Neo is difficult to keep flying when riding the wave downwind due to the lack of relative wind. I am looking forward to experience the amazing drift everyone talks about....

I think that it would be more useful to say what size of LEI is closest to each size of peak. Is the 5 something like a 9m lei?

Since I bought the 5m I have hardly used my 9m ultra light hyperlink .
