Small pocket board - looking for recommendation/advice

Postby matanshapira » Sat Aug 17, 2019 7:00 pm

Hi,

Skill: 100% flying footswitch success rate, can do 360 intermittently.
Liquid Force Impulse Foil (~1150cm area), LF Galaxy 4'8"
Style: carving and tricks. Strapless or 1 hook
Average weight, large foot size.

I'd like to add a smaller board. I hear that around 1m(37" inch) is the right size for the above profile and the lighter the better(swing weight).

Known options:
Kanaha Shapes 37", 2kg - 850$ => 1100$(after shipping and import)
Crazyfly F-Lite full carbon - 99x44, 2.1kg - 900$(after shipping and import)
Groove Skate full carbon (size S), 110x46 - 2.5kg(maybe less for this size) - 1300$ (after shipping and import)
Oak3, 37" , 95x40cm, 2kg~ - 250$(after shipping and import)

Not an option:
Moses - plate won't fit
Slingshot/Naish/Liquid Force/Duotone - lightest and smallest boards are much heavier than the above

Which would you recommend? any other option?

What (if any) is the advantage of the first 3 over the cheaper and more durable Oak3 board?

Thanks!

I think you should go for the Oak3. Support the small independent product. Great price.

Haha, Kandaha shapes and groove are not exactly corporate!

Of those I like the Groove skate myself, but thats really only based on aesthetics. I rode a wood skim for a few years so also have a liking for the Oak.

give riccardo @newind a message..
https://www.facebook.com/NewindKiteboarding/

moses boards sells his "rebranded" boards and i'm pretty certain he'll make any type of board with any type of connection you'd desire.

/however i've seen the same moses mast on 37" kahana machos, groove skate carbons..and obviously on moses....you may want to confirm that your plate doesnt actually fit moses boards

Hi matanshapira,

are you sure about the price of the Oak3, 37" ?
Because I asked and they told me it's not less that 350 euros (approx USD 389 $)

for the same price I would surely go for the Crazyfly F-Lite full carbon because I heard too many good feedbacks on it.

But if the price of the Oak3, 37" should be around 250$ (after shipping and import) well then.. I would give it a try.
Please let me know thanks :bye:

I have the Kanaha shapes 41, Groove Skate and the Newind suggested. Here are my 2 cents. The Kanaha shapes rides by far and away the best. It's super basic and awesomely light. It just locks in when up on foil. The process with Kanaha was easy. He had it in stock and shipped it. The Groove Skate took months to get and was little frustrating. That's how I ended up purchasing the Kanaha. He kept telling me 30 days, 30 days for months. I was losing my whole summer waiting for Groove so bought the Kanaha.

Later, I bought a split board from Newind. It also took months. I can tell you it's beautiful and it makes traveling so easy. I can fit a foil, board, wetsuit, harness and 4 kites (Peak 4) with bars into a backpack that weighs less than 40 pounds. No charges.

I still prefer the Kanaha for everyday but I'm happy I purchased the Newind from Riccordo. In summary, Groove Skate was the least impressive of the 3. I wouldn't buy a Newind unless it's the split. I've had the Kanaha for 2 years and still love it. It's also the cheapest. Cheers. BS

Is the weight of the oak3 really only 2kg? If so for that price unbeatable value.

I'm going to cast another vote for the Kanaha Shapes "42. It's nice and light, it is small but just right to my riding. I had the "37 and I'm liking the "42 just slightly better for some forgiveness if I occasionally need to drop the hull to the water for a foot switch. It's so interesting how much difference "5 inches makes when air-switching. When I ride my "37 it's a bit more difficult to get all-air foot switching, whereas I can go for hours with very few crashes on the "42.
Ordering from Horati as PS is super easy and quick. And such personal attention & touches.
