app for logging foil session

Postby nayy » Tue Aug 20, 2019 10:18 am

Hi All,

Is there any good free app available to log sessions ?

I don't want to invest in a high tech smart watch, I have and old I Phone 5S which is still ok.
I have a watertight pouch and can wear it under my wetsuit...
I tried runtastic, but is doet nog work as is should... (stops recording after a few minutes)

I'm just curious to know how much distance I'm doing, and what the max speed is...

thanks,

Nayy

Strava is probably the most commonly used activity tracking GPS app and has the most users.

The free version is suitable for most things. It'll give a track of distance, max speed, average speed, map showing where you've been etc... And you can share the activity with friends afterwards.

If you do eventually buy a smart watch then it'll almost certainly upload your activities directly to Strava via bluetooth to your phone.

Yeah strava is good. I use it for mountain biking. Will take it on the water one day. But I don't have a old phone or a smart watch

I’ve been using Sports Tracker with my IPhone 8 in a waterproof pouch. Works for me. The app has a decent number of activity options including kitesurfing, windsurfing, and SUPing. No idea how the algorithms change for different activities. You can scroll back through the session to see what your speed was at any point. I even used a chest mount heart rate monitor under my rash guard to monitor heart rate during the session (for s*its and giggles). The altitude readout is mostly worthless (I’m not jumping anyway). The quick session below was about 9 total miles.

I used GeoTracker with my Samsung phone to track my sessions.
It's free, fairly straightforward, and you can export your data.

Shows you your track, gives max speed, average speed, total distance. It can also display the information as graphs.

I cannot guarantee that it is available on the App Store.

I use Windsport tracker. Gives upwind angles, plus all other statistics.

I used geotracker until my waterproof bag leaked and destroyed my phone. Good thing it was my old phone. Now I used a Garmin X40 golf and fitness watch. Waterproof and handy for golf.

Might be a stupid question, but what do you use a GPS for, when playing golf???

Dont understand that...

Unless it is for the "elderly", to log how long they have walked

Maybe dumb question, but if you use an older phone, that is not in use, what do you do about a data plan in order to get the app running?

Wi-fi to install the app. GPS to use it.
No data required unless you want to share your stats on social media or something.
