Hey guys, how’s it going? What’s your most used kite for foiling? I’m located in Florida so in the summer the wind is pretty light. I was looking to add a 15m NV to my quiver or get a foil, in that case what’s the biggest kite you use when foiling? I just want to use it for the days that the wind is too light for the twintip. I’m looking at the NV or the WOW. Thanks.
First off - choice between an 15m kite or a foil? Get a foil.
Second - I wouldn't buy a larger NV or a WOW for foiling. A better choice in The LQF line would be a Solo.
The biggest kite I have been using is an 11m Cabo wave kite (with a 700 sq cm wing). That will get me (80 kgs) going with no problems in 10 knots. With more skill &/or a bigger wing could probably do it in 8 knots. Lower than that will require more skill &/or a bigger, light wind kite.
If you're just learning to foil, I would go with what you have (assuming you have a kite in the 11m/12m range). When you're starting out you won't have the skill to go in really light wind - you'll want to go out in 12 - 15 knots so that you can concentrate on the foil & not worry about dropping the kite. Once you have the basics figured out, you can decide if you want to invest in a bigger kite, & at that point you will probably have a better understanding of what you would like.
