ozone Alpha 12 low end on foil?

Postby richy-c » Wed Sep 04, 2019 6:27 pm

Anyone know what minimum wind speed would need to be to get going on an onda 633 and 12 Alpha with 95kg rider?

I am about the same weight (5kg less) and can go in 6-7 knots in side shore wind on the 633 and a small board (wind strength measured on the beach on multiple occasions so I am pretty confident about those numbers).
Performance in light winds depends by no small means on light wind skills (I believe mine are reasonable due to plenty of exposure..).

on the other hand, my light wind skilz aren't all that great, same weight as you guys, and i would never even try to fly my Alpha 12M in anything less than averaging 13mph.

Yes thats where im at at the moment but my skill level is low. I was wondering if its me or the kite. Im looking for a kite to get me going comfortably in sub 10 mph 👍

Any kite can get you going in sub 10 knots. It’s about being able to keep the kite in the air. Lighter the kite easier will be. Practice your light wind skills on the beach to be confident with flying the kite in such conditions.

Putting line extensions (6m) on you lines will help a lot in marginal wind... longer power strokes to get you going and more time to recover when you make a mistake.

I've a Gong strutless V2 12m² (not an alpha but the same type of light wind kite), with 10-11 knots I'm almost overpowered with my 12 on my onda 633. I'm 83 kg.
my 12 can get me going in 7-8 knots... the problem is the lulls ... and below 8 knots no restart if you drop the kite...
