That is a really good question, about the 85 cm mast

Strapless in small waves or no waves/chop, I find my 83 cm mast totally useless.

But my 91,5 cm I use a lot in everything when a bit light in particular, and the 100 mostly when windy and tougher conditions/waves so to speak.

For me 85 would be an absolutely no go, but very different opinions it seems.

I use the same wing sizes as you are considering DRAZ99, 800 and 1200 cm2.

jumptheshark is probably spot on, impossible for you to know, you might love the short 85 mast, or you might hate it - impossible to know with so many different experiences

I have both 800 and 1200 and 85cm mast. For me 85cm is perfect. Use it in both chop and waves. Don’t feel like I need anything longer. Granted, this is the longest mast I have ever used so have no point of reference but again I don’t feel handicapped in anyway.

1200 is very powerful. It is slow and stable but may be too powerful for kiting for smaller folks. I am 240 pounds and even in 10-12 knots use 9m. Great wing for heavier riders but would advise lighter guys to test it first if possible.

I have been using the Gofoil Kai for kiting for over a year now on a 115 cm crazy fly Flite board.

I'm thinking about switching to Armstrong 1200.
Does this foil require the same front foot pressure to keep the foil down when going down the line?
Anyone tried both to compare?

Maybe that is the key here...

I used an 83 cm mast earlier in some of the first years, and of course I found it spot on perfect as nothing to compare with.

Till I got a 100 cm mast, WOW what a difference and a hell of a lot better in all respects

And now also using a 91.5 cm mast often, as it works okay too.

Find the boundaries yourself, only way to find what works best

Tastes differ.

Wing size, mast length, board size, line length, kite size and type.

There are no blanket statements anymore because there are a LOT of different ways to foil.

Find riders who do what looks appealing to you and check their set up. I've taken most of my cues from better riders and it's been an efficient way to zero in on a great set up.

Took me three wings to figure out my preferred size, and for me shortening my mast was a move in the right direction. We have different tastes in line length too, but I would never say that my preferred 21m is truly the best because I have tried both longer and shorter and thats my fave.

Looks likes Armstrong is/has released a few new parts.

95cm mast - This is the size I would likely go for(though he did mention a 100cm, it's not on the website).

HS1050 & HS625 wings - HS1050 seems like a "perfect" one wing size. I had planned on buying 2x but not sure about sizing now, CF800 seems pretty close to the 1050 and 625 may be a bit small(about the size of my current foil).

The 95 cm mast is not new. It appears “less engineered “ than the shorter ones in that it is 2 pieces and isn’t as tapered as the 85. Unfortunate, I think. 95 built like the 85 would be great for kiting.

Which smaller wing would you add to the HS1050 for kite jumping? HS 625 or newer HS 850?
