Fsurf on a foil fish board?

Postby Michaelr123 » Sun Sep 08, 2019 2:38 am

Quick question,

If I pickup a 2019 fsurf foil set and throw it on my foil fish board for awhile am I going to have a good time? Or should I go straight to the dwarf craft right off the bat and sell the foil fish all together?

I'd like to save the money if possible and work on investing in some more gear next year, but if the board really makes that big of a difference it wouldn't kill me to grab the board now.

It will work fine. Pretty much any board works, but early on a little bigger and more flotation is helpful. Only negative is fsurf is heavy and sinks so strapless water starts are challenging until you figure out the technique. But with straps or hooks no worries.

Have fun!

I haven't foiled under a kite yet, only behind the boat. I'm hoping upgrading my wing will give me a solid shot at foiling proficiently by the end of this season!

Also, straps on for my first session with the kite? I preferred going without behind the boat, but I was able to grab the board with one hand and hold onto rope with the other, and then use the pressure of the boat pulling me forward to hold the board to my feet. Then I would just pop up and shuffle my feet into place to get up on the wing.

My thought process with the kite is that I won't get a nice clean force to pull me up, and I'll need to get alot more efficient at popping up on the board. Does that logic sound about right?

Assuming you are a proficient kiter you will find it much the same as the boat. You either grab board with one hand while diving kite with the other. Or you pop up onto horizontal board.

I am a fan of foot hooks. Give a little more board control on take off but can get feet out easily for wipeouts

The start of the "free ride" fun foil era. Also the first marketed 2 in 1 board I can recall. Up to its introduction, there was carafino and race foils, nothing in between.

Oh, thanks, I know these very well, but so old that I thought we were talking about something new SUP foil fish board of some kind.

Then it will work just fine, start with that board now :thumb:

You can get newer and better boards yes, but no need to before you know EXACTLY what you want.

Got a friend, really good rider, still riding his foil fish in waves and general :naughty:
