2001 to 2006 - 100% twintip
2006 to 2016 - 100% surfboard
2016 to 2018 - 90% foil & 10% surfboard
2018 to 2019 - 80% foil, 10% surfboard, 10% twintip
Foiling actually got me interested in the twintip again since I now get so many sessions with the foil. Surfboard only comes out on “proper” wave days.
These days I just pick the right tool for the job. Overhead+ top to bottom waves = surfboard
Flat water 25+ knots = twintip
Everything else = foil

2003 to 2014 - 100% TT ; a year of that i spent in a wheel-chair.
and getting my legs cut-Off.
2015 ----------- 99% Directional
2016 to summer 2019 , 100% , on a Hang glider or Paraglider.
Three weeks ago 50% TT 50% directional.
It's surprising, how much ya lose, to that "Connected" feeling ;
when ya take 3.5-years off !

I'm in the ocean almost every single day (350+ days) all year doing everything fun available (so I have some credibility to answer this question) and here is how I make my decisions every morning before heading to the beach:
-Glassy and 4ft+ waves = surfing a shortboard.
-Knee to waist high and glassy or mild chop = prone surf foil.
-Windy = wind sport (whatever is most fun at the time).
-No wind or waves or fish = paddling a SUP around exploring.
-Fish = fishing.
-Flat and clear = freediving/spearing.
Now I will say that I basically never longboard or SUP surf anymore, that has been completely replaced by prone surf foiling.

My mental cinema has two wave riding experiences playing on high rotation.
One is an overhead ocean wave pitching and me on my kite and surfboard racing under the lip and out the front. Not exactly a tube ride but loads of adrenalin and speed and power. I have to drive a few hours to a spot where I can do this and the conditions only coincide with me being there every other year or so.
The other is in 35 knot bay swell. The wave would be well overhead but the sea state makes it more of a mound than a pitching wave. I'm high on the foil and blasting at speed down this big mound and trimming along the face. I've ridden the same waves on a surfboard and it's fun, but not memorable. I get to do variations of this almost every day with kite and foil.
I'm currently trying to do the same thing on a wing foil. I keep face planting and getting run over by the board. I'm getting there.

Barely been out of my SB this summer ... but that's partly because the wind has been so (historically) shitty. Finally had one great 6m session a couple of weeks ago. It's still a lot of fun - everything happens a lot faster & with more intensity than riding waves with a foil, where you have to focus on keeping the foil balanced at all times. However, very modest waves & wind on a foil is a carve-fest compared to even the best SB days at my local spots. It's all so effortless & smooth with the ability to string together multiple turns on even sloppy waves ... and the ability to get back upwind & do it all again with one quick tack.

The surfboard did not get used the whole season. I did prone surf with friends a few times but the rest was foiling only.

spent a couple weeks on oahu last month...
i stayed near kailua beach park.. but drove every day i could to do dawn patrol at either the marina or diamond head...
north shore was dead in terms of swell.. i saw kiteboarders @ kailua(i took kite gear...and planned to kite..but did not kite anywhere)
i probably foil surfed 2 days out of 10. .. mainly i think bc of "peer pressure"
i can foil non-stop and take many more waves (sometimes..10x more in a evening when waves get pumping and crowds thin)
but sometimes it feels like...i'm skipping something and "rushed" thru the journey part to just get to my destination
riding those perfectly formed waves is cool, right..
but chilaxing in a line-up with your bros and simply enjoying the "now" and where you are ... is also a big part of surfing..
