Levitaz foil broken mast needs help.

Postby Foilforsure » Sun Sep 22, 2019 3:06 pm

Hi everyone ,
I m newbie foiling member. I need help from kite forum members. I bought a Levitaz foil set 110 cm Cruiser on Ebay 2018 . I enjoyed it very much ,practiced every day , but one day I had session in light wind and suddenly my foil hit something very hard in the water. The mast cracked by the top neck, just before the tunnel for fuselage runs through.
I don't know how to deal with this problem. Does anyone could give me any advice if it is possible to be repaired it likely sealed or cover up by another Carbon layer? Or whatever solutions that someone had been done which's similar as My case.
I afraid and concern that this cracked sport of the mast is very weak because it carry the heavy load of the big Cruise wing and against waters forced in hi speed creating tremendous loaded pressure on the repair spots which will damage it and probably break again.
Thanks so much ! any ideas or suggestions is very appreciated, and sorry for my poor English.

Shoot a mail to Levitaz. The first series of masts did break at this point. The uneven load of the wing at the take off when jumping did kill the head of the mast.
The newer version was made stronger .
I know a guy who broke 4 masts, Levitaz did always give him a new one. Good luck

Hi Breze,
I will do that , but Levitaz may ask for invoice and receipt of this foil. Since I bought it 2nd hand on Ebay, would it is possible for warranty? Thanks so much.

For someone who is experienced in working with carbon, it could be fixed. But if you have never worked with carbon, layer setup and not having the right tools at hand.... no chance.

I thought Levitaz foil is full carbon very solid and indestructible but not this time . Very disappointed. The wing is perfectly okay but the head neck just broken by itself.
Still less than 24 months under warranty, but they ve done nothing about this.

Hi Foilforsure,

sorry to see. Levitaz in the first generation has been pretty solid for its time, but the problem started with the combination of first generation struts with secound generation bigger wings with more than 60 cm span as your Cruizer and also people getting better and therefore loading the foils more not only during jumping. I am not sure if new setups have been sold in the combination you have (older strut and big wing) and if yes for sure just for a short time, till they started to reinforce their struts for the bigger wings. But as I remember this switch in strut foot diameter has been more than 2 years ago. So are you sure production date of yours is younger than 24 mounth? Anyway also not for sure, but I don't think they give a 24 mounth warranty outside Europe and even there maybe not necessarily for products that have been bought used.

I had the same problem with a strut that have been used for around 24 mounth pretty often (150 sessions for sure) and hard usage and was happy that they offered me a new one for a reduced price, but I am in Europe and bought always new via official shop. So I think you may ask, if they help you with the price, but wouldn't bet on it, as to me it sounds you are much more away from a waranty case. Within their warranty terms they have been always very fair. And their latest struts, since as said two years maybe more, with the fat foot, will be able to tolerate a lot of usage.

Otherwise I think as granini said, if you find a very good shaper it is maybe not totaly impossible to repair it. I also still have an old strut myself around which I will try to reinforce and rebuild with short length and tuttle box, when I find the time. My experience for a good chance to repair carbon stuff breaking by wear is to have always an eye on it after usage as I don't think the shown crack started to show up in one day or only if it was caused mainly by what you have hit hard in the water.

So you buy second hand,

You hit it into a solid object

Smash the mast to bits

Now you are upset that they haven't fixed it for you?

To snap the carbon like that it’s a huge rotational for e not a nose on impact, IF it was a front impact the front wing would be smashed.

Most likely you rode into the shallows the wing top touched down and then all your weight went through one wingtip twisting the fuselage and snapping the mast connection

If the ground was soft/sandy then there won’t be a mark in the wing

Go buy a Mercedes on eBay crash it and take it back to Mercedes and see if they will give you a new car or repair yours for free...

Hi,

nothing in the world is indestructible. When you something solid with speed everything snaps no matter. There is no warranty for such mishandling of gear.

tks
