Best foils for SUP "wing foiling"

Postby dave1986 » Mon Oct 14, 2019 12:38 pm

I'm interested to know which hydrofoils (brand/ wing model/ size) people are using for wing foiling?

In particular I'd like to know whether the Moses 790 or 873 wings are any good or whether there are much better options available from other brands?

Also what mast lengths do people find work best?

PM Gunnar, gmb13

He is probably most informed and knowledgeable guy.
Imho moses kite platform is too soft for anything bigger than 633 - which i own and absolutely love for almost 3 year.

Moses have some new masts with wood core /also thicker/ which should be much stronger but i dont know about compatibility with surf wings.

I use the Slingshot Infinity 99 foil with 60 and 75 cm. masts. Works good for me. I have not tried any other ones.

I have a 133 l crossover board (starboard hypernut) for windfoiling/supfoiling with a Moses Tortuga (the 873 now?) attached to the bottom and I don't feel any instability problem at all. Have you tried it to make that kind of theories?

I mainly use it with a 5'2 sail when wind is too gusty/offshore to kite and It has made my lightwind windsurfing sessions fun again.

I think it will be a good wingfoil board but the wings still hasn't got my attention. They look so tiring without harness lines.

Oh I didn't remember this is a kiteforum! 😂

I have only used the AXIS 102 with the 65cm mast and it works quite well. Using a 125 litre board.

I have and Tom Tom is right. The Carbon masts are more flexible. Not only the ones from Moses. I mainly prefer to ride Alu masts setups for Supfoiling and Wingfoilng at the moment as the flexibility drives me nuts on waves. I prefer to have a very stiff and direct feel and so far no Carbon mast does it for me. If you have never tried a good Alu mast, you probably won't notice it on your setup as you will have nothing to reference it too, but once you try the same wing setup on a much stiffer mast, you will not be able to not feel the wooble on yours.

That said. Not all Alu masts are the same. The stiffest ones are from Axis, Indiana, Moses and Cloud 9 at the moment.

Oh good point here! I thought it was the opposite, carbon masts stiffer than alu ones.

I have used slingshot h2 (not enough lift) and 84. MastT all the way forward to maximize lift. I've used 24 inch and 30 inch..
Taller gave a little more leeway in chop.

Once upon foil it's not hard on arms at all ... Kinda floats over head, maybe more like parasailing. But if not on foil it's pretty hard on arms for sure, fighting the wind to get board unstuck.

My go to set up is the Axis 100 front wing and short fuselage with 440 rear on a 68-75 centimeter mast.
