SPI Foiling

Postby chibern » Wed Oct 23, 2019 6:02 pm

Heading out to SPI in a few weeks and was wondering whether or not I should bring my foil.

How far out do you have to body drag to use a 90 cm mast on the Gulf side (given a "normal" swell day there) ?

My plan is to TT/SB the Gulf side as much as possible but might bring the foil in case of low wind days - worth it?

You describe your 'style' as "spastic" ...... you should be banned from the forum for such offensive remarks

Is there a joke I am missing or does "spastic" actually mean something offensive in Spanish(?)

Edit:
I just looked this up and apparently "spastic" has quite different connotations between English speaking countries.

In the US, most people won't look at you funny if you say the word and even less so if you're describing yourself.

Apparently, in the UK/Ireland however, it is a highly offensive word.

Who knew?! I'll see if I can come up with something less offensive to the global community.

But... duuude (I know, offensive to non-Americans!) you need to lighten the hell up.

It’s the other way around: retard is offensive, spastic means uncontrolled muscle contractions, thats what i have after too much sport

spastic (plural spastics)

(now offensive, especially in Britain) A person affected by spastic paralysis or spastic cerebral palsy.
(slang, offensive especially in Britain) A stupid, clumsy person.

The offensiveness of spastic and spaz differs considerably between the US and the UK. In the United States, the terms are inoffensive; in the UK, they are typically taken as denigrating references to those with cerebral palsy, and consequently University of Sussex linguist Lynne Murphy has described spastic as "one of the most taboo insults to a British ear"[1] and in a 2003 survey by the BBC it was voted the second-most offensive word relating to disability (after retard).

i learned something new today..

I would like to hear from SPI foilers about conditions Dec-April if we can get this thread back on point? Looking for an alternative to Baja.

Thanks

just a personal opinion...
but there is no comparison of baja to SPI.
imo, baja is one of the great places to foil on planet...spi isnt.

i had high expectations for SPI...and was disappointed.
maybe if you want flatwater...the slicks might be cool.
but for foiling...it is simply open ocean which you can do anywhere along the coast of texas.
water is warmer than baja thou...

during spring break times.....other activities rock due to the college chicks there(small town chicas of texas are a world treasure..and should be protected)...other times the tourists seem mostly to be families from northern mexico (nightlife is very meh)
