Ultra short lines or wing...?

Postby kitenight11 » Wed Nov 06, 2019 3:14 pm

I have seen this video and am wondering if for a kitesurfer the short line thing wouldn't be more efficient and fun, rather than rge new wing thing. What are your thoughts and experiences (only with foil)?

What happens if you go downwind faster than the kite pushed by a wave?

Small single skin on very long lines makes more sense to me as there is time to recover slack. I'm enjoying single skin a lot.

Or a wing that you can hold and it just luffs but does not fall or tangle. I haven't ridden a wing but so far that is the only draw for me.

I was not thinking especially about downwinder, but in general to replace the wingthing and making foiling easier/more approachable in small Areas and with bigger boards, like with the wingthing.

Just remember Gunnar did make the video before he was getting his wing!

Just ask him if he now would do it again and you have your answer.

Having a kite on lines that short that you can't loop it any more, kills one of the biggest part of its advantages.

My idea was just for easy cruising around and not for high Performance waveriding. Windrange should be equal?

I have started winging in areas that I would not even consider for kiting due to all the trees/cars/houses ..... my local lake now offers all wind directions and gusty shitty wind conditions are fun.

Nice Gunnar made this video. It shows how short you can make lines, you can actually go onto the bridles at the line attachment points but 2m is practically there. Relaunch should be much better like this. It does open an easier possibility to pack the kite and ride without it as Gunnar mentions.

I wonder what the optimal line length is for some single skins, particularly the very small ones.

I tested 15m and 12m lines back-to-back on 4m peak4. Big difference between the two, much prefer the 15m length.

Had to work hard to get up on the board with the 12m lines, but plenty of power when up and riding. Much easier to get up on the 15m lines and same power when riding.

Did you use also kind of sup board or traditional kitefoil board?
