Would you buy a very sharp wing?

Postby UKSurf » Sun Nov 24, 2019 6:56 pm

I was recently thinking about buy the Onda wing but decided against it because it seemed very sharp and pointed - and I did not want to fall on it! Does anyone else consider this when buying a hydrofoil?

Yes. My Cloud 9 is nice and dull. I’m not very concerned about landing on it.

Would never buy a sharp foil. There are many other options so why take the risks. Everyone get hit by their foil

I am in two minds about this.

If the foil was super high performance and I believed that then I might buy it. I would sand most of the razor sharp edges off before using it.

But, the foils I have are fantastic for their purpose of freeriding. No sharp edges. Extremely robust and reliable. Beautifully fit for purpose. If a small manufacturer can make foils that arrive essentially perfect, why can't larger manufacturers do the same? Why do people have to sand and tune foils to make them work optimally?

My onda wing is now dull as a door nail after dozens of bottom strikes and sanding.....they all get dull eventually....

No. I would never have sharp or pointy foil.

If it's too pointy/sharp for you, you can just sand it off.

Have the ONDA, 10 mins sanding much safer and negligible % loss of perform >Worth the small effort for a fantastic foil.

If you don't like it sharp you can sand it blunt. But if you buy a blunt foil you can't easily sand it sharper.
