Thanks guys. Im using the 633. Be good to try a few before buying but as usual with kite gear its difficult. Im quite heavy too at 95 kg so maybe large is better? I just dont know til i try and at a 1000 euros for a groove its a gamble.

Just buy a Groove Skate 130 and ask Santa to bring you the T38 🤙

Out of interest are you now using your 90 mast or even the 101?
As Mar menor is so flat i dont need the 90 Steve. Ive got carve to toeside and back to heelside cracked though at last i can turn ✌️

I wouldn’t be scared to go smaller. I went from alien air to dwarfcraft micro.

I think for transitions it’s more about the foil than the board, Even on the surface, especially with free ride higher lift foils.

One thing you might consider is where you are standing now relative to the foil on the alien air and how that would transfer over to the board you pick.

Good luck!
PurdyD what level were you at when you changed to micro?

Sounds about like you where you are. I could carve turns heel side, toe side all day long, I could ride toe side either side. I could not making a flying foot switch to save my life.

Video below, a couple of weeks later I changed to the dwarfcraft micro.

I hade the larger dwarfcraft which was too small for me to learn on and it seemed large and wasn’t as easy as the alien air.

It took me ten seconds to get used to the dwarfcraft, And it is easier than the alien air to keep the trim because there is less board to have to move around and it reacts quicker. Also, easier to gybe, the narrower board with beveled rails catches less. And it is a lot of fun, just sportier.

I have been thinking I could have downsized earlier. I thought as I struggled with switching feet going back to the bigger board but now that can make a flying footswitch, heel to toe or toe to heel. I think no, the small board is fine, it was not the board limiting me.

One nice thing that slingshot did in 2020 is move the foil track back so that let me keep the hook back a bit and have some nose in front. I feel that lets me ride the board in lighter winds where I can’t pop up on the foil right away,

Maybe with your weight you might be right about the size, I am about 170 lbs. I don’t know about that.

All I know is I am not gods gift to foiling and believe the alien air is the best size to start on, but once you can carve gybes, it is time to go smaller and you can probably go smaller than you think.

Nothing spectacular just to give you a gauge for where I was when I switched to the smaller board.

I haven't had an opportunity to try a groove, although I was quite tempted to buy one a year or so back. Ended up on a red t38 and happy with the selection.
Going smaller will never give you the forgiveness a bigger board does during touchdowns.
I feel that the foil/board combo is paired perfectly.

Would you class the T38 as a small board medium or large ?
