2020 Dwarfcraft 3'6" vs 4'6"

Postby apos0 » Wed Jan 01, 2020 4:34 pm

Anyone used both? What's the difference in riding, is one easier to ride than the other?

There is quite a difference between the 2 sizes. It comes down to your ability. The 4'6" is very user friendly from beginner to a more advanced foiler. The 3'6" and the Micro 3'6" is more geared toward the to the more advanced rider. You should be at the point where you can stay on foil through your turns ,basically all the time. The 4'6" is more forgiving on touchdowns where the 3'6" is not at all.
The 3'6" is a super fun board to ride if you have the skill set. Another small point to ponder, the 4'6" Dwarf IMO rides a little smaller than your similar sized board. It has very pronounced bevels which make the board feel smaller compared to a flatter bottom board.

Hi thanks for your input, Im advanced and riding the Hypermiler which I ride with my Spotz Shark and Ghost Whisperer 91. Thinking to update the GW with the new Phantasm series and eventhough i love the Hypermiler i think riding a smaller board will be more fun.

For sure get the 3'6" Dwarfcraft.

It's a lot more responsive to turning, pumping (if needed), etc.

You'll love it.

For a bit of a different perspective, there's been a few cheap 3'6 here but I wouldn't buy one now because they're a bit too big. Unless you're a complete beginner smaller is better in my experience.

I can’t imagine there is much difference between the hypermiler and 4’ 6” dwarfcraft.

I’d opt dwarfcraft micro if you are strapless or only use one front hook/strap. Two front straps, use the regular dwarfcraft 3’ 6”.

In spite of the pictures the micro does not have inserts for two front foot straps.

If you kept the hypermiler, I don’t see any reason you couldn’t go smaller.

I’d be reluctant to have a 3’ board as my only foil option. But that is just me.

Good luck!

I’ve been riding a 37” KS board and it’s great for a lot of stuff but it’s hard to go fast because it’s tough to get far enough forward to ride comfortably at top speed. I think I am going to go back to a bigger boards mainly for this reason (and because I want the option to mount footstraps for certain things).

So, even when you’re competent riding it, I do think there are certain things that a 3’ board is not ideal for.

About three years back I switched from 4’6” to 3’6” and was surprised how easy the switch went. A year back I started riding 3’0” board and now stepping onto 3’6” feels like riding a huge board.
I ride strapless and don’t jump with foil. I ride fairly large wings 630-1000 sq.cm and I rarely touch water unless I practice tricks. If I rode a race wing set I might have needed longer board but on current wings and with my stance not comfortable wider than 32” I’d say I can ride a smaller board than my small one
